Paul weighs Supreme Court challenge to NSA surveillance programs
The Hill's Blog Briefing Room ^ | June 9, 2013 | Meghashyam Mali

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Sunday said he would examine ways to block the National Security Agency’s surveillance programs before the Supreme Court.

“I'm going to be seeing if I can challenge this at the Supreme Court level,” vowed Paul on “Fox News Sunday.”

“I’m going to be asking all the internet providers and all of the phone companies: Ask your customers to join me in a class action lawsuit. If we get 10 million Americans saying we don’t want our phone records looked at then maybe someone will wake up and something will change in Washington,” he said.

A report in the Guardian last week revealed that the NSA had sought information on phone numbers, and the location and duration of calls to help identify potential terror threats. A separate program, PRISM, sought information on foreign Internet users from American tech companies.

The disclosures unleashed a firestorm of criticism at the Obama administration’s record on civil liberties, coming weeks after news that the Justice Department had seized reporter records in leak investigation and after the Internal Revenue Service admitted targeting Tea Party groups....

Remember...Roberts joined others in the opinion. He was not a lone wolf.

While I may disagree with the opinion...and I don't because they already take taxes out of our checks for Medicare. How can you escape that fact??

Is it constitutional?? If I can opt out of Obamacare, then it follows I can opt out of the Medicare "Tax".

Congress needs to kill it....not the Supreme Court.

Actually, I’ve done everything possible to stay out of the public spotlight online, and I’m STILL being surveiled. It pisses me off more than I think you understand.

I’ve never been on Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit, Imgur, Skype, Google or any other social media site. I’ve never fallen for the seemingly widespread need to be constantly connected and always on. There are no people outside of my immediate family and friends with whom I need to be in touch every hour of every day on the Internet. I’ve purchased email encryption certificates, and always browse to websites using “HTTPS” if it’s available. I have no credit cards and only pay in cash for around town purchases, and while I do purchase things online, I’ve not once had my personal information compromised by any of the online retailers with whom I do business. I shred every last piece of mail that comes through my home. While I am cordial and neighborly, I do not discuss my belongings nor show off any accoutrements to my home. I am as withdrawn from public scrutiny as I could possibly be, but they still likely have a dossier on me.

Benghazi could take down Obama and Hillary together. All of these scandals are simply distracting from that fact. I’m not dismissing this NSA spying issue as major, but the fact is that those of us in the know have already done everything in our power to safeguard against snoops. I’ve been in IT Security for 15 years, and I can tell you things that would make you want to turn off every last piece of electronic equipment in your home for the rest of your life. You don’t need to preach. I’m not disagreeing with you, but yes, Benghazi, the death of 4 American men at the behest of the President of the United States of America, is a bigger scandal.

I actually had someone supposed to be a smart, intelligent person tell me yesterday that PRISM is a MYTH, made up by the right to attack Obama. This person is a retired Michigan teacher, no less.

How does she know this? Daily Kos, Mother Jones, MSNBC, and the Daily Show said so.

How can you get past such media programming?

“I used to collect foreign voice messages for the U.S.Navy. Any decryption was performed at NSA. We were forbidden - BY LAW - from listening or copying any telephone or radio messages that involved Americans. To do so was punishable by Courts Martial.

I served between 1980 - 1986.”

Did exactly the same job in the Air Force, in the same time period! DLI Grad?

Well then we’ll disagree. All these “scandals” are bad. This one reveals that we are all suspects and possible targets of this or any future govt. If we don’t defend and get back the liberty we have lost there could be hundreds of Benghazi’s and we’ll either never know anything about it or won’t be able to have any effect.

That's something on which we can both agree!

Love it! I do miss the days at The First National Fog Bank....

I will retire to Monterey, if California doesn’t implode before then.

“...It’s inevitable some human will avail themselves of this power and control.”

That is true, and that is why the Patriot Act should be repealed.

We know what group of people on earth the majority of terrorists come from: Muslims. We, unlike the Israelis, are not conducting our anti-terror efforts efficiently.

I reluctantly voted for Reagan because he seemed maleaable. I was correct, and Contra was proof of that. VP George H.W.Bush was behind that operation, but Hell, he had been head of the CIA at one time. G.W.Bush disrespected the Rule of Law as much as his old man, so the Patriot Act should have been expected. Never forget that it was Republicans who created that legislation.

Now we have a Muslim Marxist and malevolent narcissist in the White House, one who has delusions of grandeur and overwhelming power. He officially orders kills using drones, and if you don’t think he has murdered others, go see the the Obama Dead List on Nachumslist.com.

We can’t get much more closer to the abyss of totalitarianism without falling in, than where we are right now.

NOTE: the hardest job I’ve ever had was raising an honest child - one who was truthful and respectful of the law and of other people. If that is what defines a peon, so be it.

We have no more freedom. It’s only a matter of time before “dissidents” are sent to the gulags due to “mental illness” or “treason”. You know it’s coming. The question is: are we going to try to stop it, or will we submit and go back to Honey Boo Boo and live quietly under the dictatorship? Unfortunately, I think I know the answer.

I wonder if the tree huggers expressed any concerns about the environmental impact such a massive structure would have, I ask so rhetorically.

“I’m almost thinking that this is a diversion from the IRS and other data dipping.

And Obamacare is right around the corner. “

I agree

Obama ordered the IRS to rig the election for Obama and the democrats/socialists in the Senate.
