Edward Snowden: the whistleblower behind revelations of NSA surveillance
GUARDIAN ^ | Sunday 9 June 2013 14.27 EDT | Glenn Greenwald, Ewen MacAskill and Laura Poitras in Hong Kong

Posted on 06/09/2013 11:41:17 AM PDT by sunmars

The individual responsible for one of the most significant leaks in US political history is Edward Snowden, a 29-year-old former technical assistant for the CIA and current employee of the defence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton. Snowden has been working at the National Security Agency for the last four years as an employee of various outside contractors, including Booz Allen and Dell.

The Guardian, after several days of interviews, is revealing his identity at his request. From the moment he decided to disclose numerous top-secret documents to the public, he was determined not to opt for the protection of anonymity. "I have no intention of hiding who I am because I know I have done nothing wrong," he said.

Snowden will go down in history as one of America's most consequential whistleblowers, alongside Daniel Ellsberg and Bradley Manning. He is responsible for handing over material from one of the world's most secretive organisations – the NSA.

In a note accompanying the first set of documents he provided, he wrote: "I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions," but "I will be satisfied if the federation of secret law, unequal pardon and irresistible executive powers that rule the world that I love are revealed even for an instant."

Obama has brought the fears of Socialist, George Orwell’s “1984” to life!!! He knew exactly where socialism was going and threw up the warning flags in “Animal Farm” & “1984”!!! Limbaugh is right, Obama is seizing the government. Hillary Clinton will never see a POTUS nomination. Our Republic, Democracy, Freedom, Liberty, Opportunity is dying with each passing day!!! Hitler, Stalin, Castro, Chavez, Mao, Hussein, the Muslim Brotherhood, etc. live, control, choose who lives or dies, who goes to prison, etc. Wow......short life for the USA!!!! We have seen our last POTUS election!!!

Globalism, i.e., the financial oligarchy (London and NY finance, etc., the people who talk about new world order, etc., including the Bush dynasty, the Delano dynasty, etc., all liberal Republicans, the neocon movement lead by Harvard alumni, the far left, Democratic party, etc.), unbeknownst to most folks, created the idea of global communism/socialism/etc. Wall Street actually financially assisted in the Bolshevik revolution.

It’s hard to get one’s mind around until you look at very simply: the financial oligarchy uses communism to capture states (national governments) in nations where the public will submit to it.

Those communist nations inevitably come to them for capital; loans, investment, etc. And then... it’s one deal, and they have the whole nation as a customer. It’s a captured market, a total monopoly. And there’s no chance of a lot of people getting beyond middle class and start encroaching on their monopolies.

The left-wing agenda is, therefore, one part of globalism.

Left-wing news media corporations in the UK and US are either publicly held (their boards are then filled with globalist minions) or privately held (by families dedicated to fulfilling Wall Street’s agenda (like the NY Times).

The left wing propaganda sells so well to the poor and ignorant because it rants against capitalism - so the globalists control the newspapers that attack them. It gives great credibility to the newspapers, but at the same time the newspapers have always kept what is truly damaging to globalism out of the news. If you create and control your own enemies, your enemies will never beat you.

Notice now with this scandal... we are all talking about the US government spying on Americans, we’re not talking at all about any relationship the CIA has with the financial oligarchy.

When the Obama administration gets slammed in the UK press, the worst that can happen to the transnational financial oligarchy is that a guy like their man Romney would win the next election instead of their man Obama.

It’s when people start finding out about the oligarchy and it’s control of the US government that the oligarchs would be in danger. To counter this, they’ve always had their “this is a conspiracy theory” protection that they set up by having a few conspiracy theories about themselves that have some crazy claims embedded in them published from time to time.

If he were ‘off’d’, wouldn’t that be kind of obvious that it was a hit

Example: Overdose of drugs and alcohol in the bathtub of a locked room with a suicide note. "Just couldn't handle the pressure/pain/insert whatever __________ anymore. I'm sorry for what I did to my family."

"But after the intense political controversy he has already created with just the first week's haul of stories, "I feel satisfied that this was all worth it. I have no regrets."

Does that mean that there is more to be revealed or just that the first week of reporting has been huge with more stories expected from the already exposed information?

A 'puter geek with four years inside NSA as a consultant????

System Administrators see everything. If they didn't how could they do their jobs? I say this as a guy who has had access to everything from credit cards to passwords to authentication mechanisms. You can't debug that garbage unless you can rebuild from scratch and look at everything that comes in on a hex code level.

I'm sure this guy has got lots of nice stuff secreted away.

Or as in the case of Breightbart[sp?], heart attack. Or as in the case of Vince Foster, suicide. Or as in the case of Jim Mc Dougal, accident. One can count on however they choose to make the hit, the media will play the self inflicted , accident, or medical angle and many on this forum will parrot the media’s version. At this point in time, I would hate to be the insurance company that holds his life insurance policy.

I’ve never been big on revealing secret information. So I can’t praise this man for what he’s done.

None of this adds up in my mind. Unless he has a sizeable inheritance behind him, for how long can a 29 year old expect to remain holed up in a Hong Kong hotel?

True.

He also has to have serious security otherwise....

Also the chicoms will be watching him with great interest.

Prayers for him & his family.

Neither Manning or Snowden show any trace of irrational or otherwise mentally deficient behavior.

The article says he was making $200,000 a year.

Snowden was smart to come out while OweBowMao was visiting China. It might help him maintain sanctuary in China since his revelations neuter any lectures about human rights the Oval Occupant might have in store for Xi Jinping.

This guy is no Bradley Manning. He seems principled.

“”I carefully evaluated every single document I disclosed to ensure that each was legitimately in the public interest,” he said. “There are all sorts of documents that would have made a big impact that I didn’t turn over, because harming people isn’t my goal. Transparency is.””

“I could have sold these documents to any number of countries and gotten very rich.””

It will be ruled as “natural causes” like Breitbart, or “suicide” (Arkencide). It might be an “accident”.

A lot of bad stuff happened to people around the Klinton Syndicate, and yet none dared call it murder.

The spooks these days have innumerable ways of killing someone, and only if they want to make it obvious and send a message will they just blow the target up or shoot them.

This guy must know that he’s doomed to martyrdom and may have doomed some of his family members as well. I hope it was worth it.

My suspicions exactly...what’s his angle for attacking Americans and America’s defenders, the patriots who believe in the objective of the Founding Fathers and their intent in the US Constitution.

Don’t underestimate the fear of being branded a racist and being accused of branding America as still racist for daring to even mention the possibility of impeachment for the ‘first black president.’

That has neutered a lot of lap dogs in the RNC.

This guy may defect to the ChiComs.

I was a bit confused that a traitor who leaked Top Secret material and is hiding out in Hong Kong is a hero...I thought I'd mistakely gone to DU or something.

Anyway, he's probably already given the Chicoms a decent amount of TS to get some spending money for his sure to be long forthcoming celebrity exile.

If true, I'm going to grab some popcorn and ROFL at the giant screeching 180 that FR does on this guy.
