Most Americans back NSA tracking phone records, prioritize probes over privacy
Washington Post ^ | 06/10/2013 | Jon Cohen

A large majority of Americans say the federal government should focus on investigating possible terrorist threats even if personal privacy is compromised, and most support the blanket tracking of telephone records in an effort to uncover terrorist activity, according to a new Washington Post-Pew Research Center poll.

Fully 45 percent of all Americans say the government should be able to go further than it is, saying that it should be able to monitor everyone’s online activity if doing so would prevent terrorist attacks. A slender majority, 52 percent, say no such broad-based monitoring should occur.

The new survey comes amid recent revelations of the National Security Agency’s extensive collection of telecommunications data to facilitate terrorism investigations.

Overall, 56 percent of Americans consider the NSA accessing telephone call records of millions of Americans through secret court orders “acceptable,” while 41 percent call the practice “unacceptable.”...

With a headline that’s a lie, who would believe this poll?

It looks like a weekend poll of adults, not Likely Voters.

That means it’s a junk poll designed to influence public opinion aka help the Democrat and in this case it’s Obama.

I’ve seen person after person on this forum who believes the goobt above all else. They are the same ones who said “just don’t fly” about the TSA — the same ones who are maligning Snowden, the same leftists who will forever live in fear of what lives under their beds — and be willing to gut our Constitution so that they can feel “safe.” Same ones who are too stupid to see through the sham.

Since when did polling supersede the 4th Amendment?

How about we start up some anti-1st and see where the polls take us, eh?

“Gotta love how the poll was phrased”

One is ONLY supposed to read the headline. It would seem to me that “most” would be the 52% who don’t think it’s right.

I think most MSM media personnel are paid employees of the administration or the biggest lackeys one could imagine.

It was this same kind of attitude by the people in Germany that allowed the Nazis to rise to power.

This is USSR Today style satire. These vermin refused to run with the story when they had the scoop, just like they all refused to run with the Lewinsky story after persecuting Nixon. They are statist ideologues and horrendous liars.

It’s not even relevant what percentage of the population wants to violate the Bill of Rights, except as a sign of just how far America has fallen under liberal misdirection. Even if 97% of the population wants to deny the Jewish 3% freedom of religion, they have no right to do so.

Similarly, there is no right to unreasonable searches and seizures of what should be our private communications - not without a warrant based on “probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

A large majority of Americans say the federal government should focus on investigating possible terrorist threats even if personal privacy is compromised

Then the majority of Americans are idiots.

And they probably don't realize that it includes contents of those transmissions.

The government can take down anyone except the squeakiest, cleaniest of all the saints with this kind of info. And they can make them seem like wackos.

I could slant such a poll by merely over-weighting female responses.

Not this over-weighting junk, again. All the way up to the election last year we kept saying all the polls were over-weighted. Guess what? The polls turned out to be accurate. I believe this poll. All Americans care about anymore is their bread and circuses.

A legit Poll:

“Do you think it is ok if the Federal Government listens in on all of your phone calls and emails... especially those private calls that would expose your most guarded secrets to others... and allow some IRS agent to use that information to bribe you into agreeing to whatever they wish... or perhaps it could be used to compel a CEO of say Microsoft... to build in all manner of ways for the government to gain access to total control of everything that you are and own”.

Do you support the above?
Yes
No

Believe it. Look at all the conservatives who say Snowden should be arrested and prosecuted.

Exactly.

Yes welcome to the USSA. I don’t know how we are going to reverse this. I suspect at some point after the GOP RINO’s betray us one time too many the states will rise up and take control of the Federal govt as they should.
