New York City, N.Y., Jun 10, 2013 / 02:30 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Stressing that immigration reform is needed to correct injustices, Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan said that the proposed bill in the U.S. Senate makes serious progress in efforts to balance humanitarian and security concerns.
The Senate proposal, while not perfect, goes a long way toward correcting injustices in the system, the Archbishop of New York wrote in a June 9 column for USA Today. Despite its shortcomings, the bill significantly improves upon the status quo and will assist millions of families.
We look forward to continuing to work with Congress to improve the legislation, and we applaud lawmakers of both parties who are working together to bring 11 million people out of the shadows.
Speaking for the U.S. bishops, Cardinal Dolan wrote that immigration is close to Catholic hearts, the Church having helped to integrate immigrants into the American way of life for generations.
He explained that much-needed immigration reform must highlight America's legitimate needs of security as well as our heritage of welcoming immigrants and the gifts they bring.
We bishops call for practical and humane immigration reform grounded in the Catholic experience, he wrote.

Read my post it says the “” GOP platform is pro-life, and pro-family, but Catholics prefer the democrat platform, and always have, Catholics have always been democrats with the exception of about five presidential elections.””
You believe that Catholics vote for the democrat party which is dedicated to abortion and the homosexual agenda because they have to?
I’m saying when you have a pro abort leader on both parties, that the republicans have capitulated on this issue.
You say that Catholics have voted ‘except for five presidential elections’ for democrats.
Well, there’s only been 6 presidential elections where the republicans have nominated someone who was prolife. So that means that Catholics have supported the republican party 82 percent of the time when the Republican party nominates someone who is prolife.
Secondly, when is the republican party going to nominate a Catholic?
Talking out of your lower GI tract again.
I have noticed your insult trolling throughout the threads today, and that area of the human body seems to hold a lot of interest for you.
Cardinal Dolan - another enemy of our homeland and our future.
Adios America. Nice while it lasted.
I will never understand your insistence that Catholics are right to vote for Obama and Clinton and Gore and the democrats, because it is the right thing to do, I think it is is wrong, and that is why I criticize it, not defend it.
IBDCS (In Before Dolan Can’t Sing!)
You have to realize that most Catholic bishops have led extremely sheltered lives from the day they entered seminary. They are clueless as to what the non-ecclesiastical world is all about.
The US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is a cesspool of Democrat staffers and party operatives. They are the ones whom these bishops rely upon to give them white papers and talking points on these topics like immigration.
Remember that it was the USCCB operatives, with permission of the snookered bishops, who gave ACORN $7 million even while ACORN was advising people how to get abortions.
These same bishops will exhort the faithful to go on Marches for Life, after which the bishops will be dining and cozying with the likes of Pelosi, Mikulski, Leahy, Biden, Kennedy, and all the other abortion facilitators in the Democrat party.
The way to fight this naïve nonsense is to advocate open borders for millions of Bangladeshi Muslims, Indian Hindus, Chinese Buddhists and atheists, and West African spiritualists, who won’t be filling in the Catholic pews and collection baskets on Sunday morning.
Why is it wrong to support Obama but right to support Romney?
Nominate a prolifer, win elections. The last pro abort republican to win was Nixon. That was over 40 years ago.
cardinal dolan only cares about this because 90% of mexicans are catholic.
They way to fight this is to nominate a prolife Catholic. Something Republicans have never done.
What Republicans are telling America is if you want people to respect you - you need to do what all the other Americans are doing - abort your kids, contracept your wife and tell the pope that you are your own boss.
How is that workin’ out fer ya, America?
Now, what happens to all us faithful Catholics who are tired of wandering in the wilderness? Abraham only had to wait 40 years.
You want more faithful Catholics - then nominate one. You don’t think all of us are going to go to hell and back to support someone who actually believes what we do?
Anyways, it’s your choice, keep dissing Catholics, lose elections. It’s interesting to see that protestants have capitulated their former moral Christian leadership in America. To Catholics of all people.
This idea that you have that Catholics are right to vote democrat and for Obama is mind blowing.
That is an especially strange view for freerepublic.
I don’t recall Nixon running as pro-abortion in 1968, or 1972 for that matter, do you have a link?
That is the bribe that will stop them from voting for Obama and democrats? Either the GOP nominate a pro-life Catholic or else Catholics will continue to vote for partial birth abortion and Planned parenthood and NOW, and the teacher's unions and the democrat party?
This promoting of Catholics voting for Obama and for the anti-God democrat party is mind blowing.
Why are you telling me?
Cardinal Dolan is a pro-life Catholic - and he wants amnesty.
The topic is amnesty, not abortion.
With 33 million new Democrat voters, Dolan guarantees unrestricted abortion laws for eternity - or until the Islamists take over America and enforce Sharia.
Post 51 was posted to you, when I responded to post 51, I included you to my response to the post sent to you.
I should think that if the Republicans are willing to nominate a pro abortion mormon, that surely they would be willing to nominate a prolife Catholic.
What say you? Would you vote for a prolife Republican Catholic nominee for the presidency in 2016?
Nah, the topic of this thread is to bash Catholics.
I’ll ask the same of you. Would you vote for a prolife Catholic as the Republican nominee for the presidency in 2016?
Your promoting that it is correct for Catholics to vote pro-abortion democrat is obscene.
Judging from history, the democrats seem to have a lock on the catholic vote, and that is why they fight for immigration.
Noting could have made me vote for Obama, like the Catholics do.
I dont recall Nixon running as a pro-abortion candidate in 1968, or 1972 for that matter, do you have a link?
