Ohio: Proof that Obamacare ‘Rate Shock’ Is Real
Wall St. Cheat Sheet ^ | June 11, 2013 | Meghan Foley

The so-called rate shock from Obamacare has hit Ohio. The state’s Department of Insurance announced last Thursday that, based on rates submitted by insurers to date, it estimates the average individual-market health insurance premium in 2014 will cost approximately $420, “representing an increase of 88 percent” compared to 2013.“We have warned of these increases,” said Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor in the accompanying press release. “Consumers will have fewer choices and pay much higher premiums for their health insurance starting in 2014.”

There are two main drivers for this increase: risk pool composition changes will require the young to subsidize the old and the healthy to subsidize the sick; and Obamacare’s expansion of insurance benefits, particularly its required reductions in deductibles and co-pays.

It’s all run by the government, but there are the “preferred” providers for the nomenklatura, and then third-world class care for the peons.

It usually works out pretty much that way in the nationalized medical care systems. In Canada, though, I've heard of even political bigwigs there coming into the US for care they thought was better than their socialized system could provide them.

Government has no incentive to control costs. Quite the opposite. The more they can increase costs, the more they can demand from their subjects.

The Unaffordable Democrat Govt Act is the best thing that ever happened. It will prove once and for all that Democrats running things are dangerous to a brain dead public.

Those premiums paid by young people will drop into the 'lock-box' and be pulled out the next second to pay for liberals' give-a-way programs. None of the money will be put aside for their health care.

The Unaffordable Democrat Govt Act...

That's certainly a more accurate title than "Affordable Care Act." They are adding insult to injury by giving this abomination the name they gave it!!!

There are going to be thousands upon thousands of patriotic, conservative Ohioans that will be crushed financially when this occurs. You think they weren't listening?

Where the HELL were they in the last election??????!!!!!

But don't worry: this will just effect Ohio. /sarc
