THE GANG OF EIGHT’S BILL: TO KNOW IT IS TO HATE IT
Power Line ^ | June 10, 2013 | JOHN HINDERAKER

Posted on 06/11/2013 8:57:10 PM PDT by neverdem

The Federation for American Immigration Reform commissioned Pulse Opinion Research to conduct polling on key provisions of the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill in seven states: Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio and West Virginia. You can see the results here. In general, they show that if you tell voters what is actually in the bill, they don’t like it.

Let’s take Ohio, a bellwether swing state. This is how FAIR sums up the results:

* 68% oppose granting legal status to illegal aliens before a border security plan is fully implemented, and 32% of voters oppose granting amnesty under any circumstance.

* 74% oppose the discretionary authority given to DHS to legalize aliens with criminal records or gang affiliations, including 52% who “strongly oppose” those provisions.

* 67% oppose provisions in the bill that would significantly increase overall immigration to the U.S., including 46% who are “strongly opposed.”

* 74% oppose the increases in guest workers authorized under the bill, including 42% who said the increases are “much too high.”

They key, of course, is that the poll questions tell voters things they otherwise probably didn’t know about the bill. Take, for instance, the question on the overall level of new immigration authorized by the legislation:

If the bill passed, about 12 million current illegal immigrants would become permanent legal residents – green card holders – within ten years. The bill would also double the number of new green cards we issue to other people over the next decade, to about 22 million. Do you strongly support, somewhat support, somewhat oppose or strongly oppose provisions of the bill that could add 34 million new permanent residents and workers to the United States over ten years?

The poll finds that a strong plurality of voters in all seven states are appalled at these massive levels of new, mostly unskilled immigration. But if it weren’t for the pollster–if voters were relying on, say, newspapers or the evening news–they would have no idea that this huge influx in legal unskilled immigrants is part of the bill.

So my principal takeaway is that Republican Senators and Congressmen shouldn’t hesitate to oppose the bill, and shouldn’t be afraid to explain their reasons. The more voters know about what the bill actually contains, the more likely they are to oppose it, strongly.

But the Republicans will be labelled "racists" by the MSM and in their Washington social circuit. So, they're afraid...

By the same token, polls of LEGAL Hispanics show they are against "amnesty" by almost 2-to-1.

Far and away, the most popular political position is to stand against "amnesty" and demand the enforcement of border security first! Not to mention that it is the right thing to do.

But our Republican Senators and Congressmen can't figure out what to do...

I can find no tangible evidence, let alone proof, that there is any intent at the federal level to seriously control the Southern border.

There are plenty of “border security plans” already written and encoded into federal law. If the Administration chooses not to enforce or obey existing law for political and ideological reasons, then additional laws don’t much matter. There are Federal laws that should be superseding state laws that allow “medical marijuana”, sanctuary cities and homosexual marriages. Of course these activities are allowed to proceed despite existing Federal statutes. However if a state passes a law or regulation limiting abortion, it is rapidly overturned. Hard to have “respect for the law.”

We all need to do whatever it takes to stop this Obamacare type bill. Call/email/fax your representatives or go to their offices to make your voice to be heard. The bill was designed as a blueprint for the unions, special interests and selected business groups. The taxpayer will have to pay for all these illegals. Why not focus on legal immigrants and enforcing the current laws. Obama is lying. His Justice Department does not assist border states rather he takes them into court.

I wish someone in the house with B@LLS would propose the exact immigration policy that mexican’t (spelled wrong on purpose-NO RESPECT for that sewer or it’s people) has and see what would happen.

Then when all the name calling calms down explain what it is and say ‘if it’s good enough for the mexican’t people then it should be good enough for US’

or propose the Cuban immigration policy and ask Rubio if he recognizes it?

More laws are how the congress keeps us under control and distracts us from what they’re really doing.

But our Republican Senators and Congressmen can't figure out what to do...

I know they Republican Congressional leadership can be dumb, but this in no way be passed of as just some more dumb GOPe mistakes.

Only one thing can explain this measure of traitorous action, they are complicit to the core. We can either wake up to that reality, or start planning our demise as a nation with a Christian background. The country will survive, but it will have no room for Christians or Conservatives and especially Libertarians.

God have mercy on us all, for our new masters surely won't.

This government was not intended to be run by a “gang” of any number.

I do not recognize the authority of eight men to tell the rest of us what we must do. Nor do I recognize the silence of the rest of congress as the consent of we the people.

I don’t know about the rest of y’all, but I’ve just about had enough.

Rubio needs to go. From the beginning all he talked about was amnesty, free college educations for all his compatriots. Toast.

The real cost of this amnesty fraud is that America will never see another fair election again. As soon as these people are organized by ACORN, La Raza and LULAC they will be voting all across our nation and they will have the power to control both houses of congress which means all the restrictions, regulations and "waiting period" Rubio's commercials talk about will go right out the window. After which the flood gates will be open even wider.

Complicit? Or just stone dumb? Or so afraid of being labelled "racists" that they're peeing in their pants?

Because what they're engaging in will doom the party forever and eliminate whatever hope they may have had for re-gaining power.
