Honeywell introduces city-controlled thermostat system for homes
St. Paul Pioneer Press ^ | 06/11/2013 | Julio Ojeda-Zapata

Honeywell has announced a new Wi-Fi-controlled thermostat that is intended to be distributed by municipalities instead of purchased at retail by consumers in order to better manage energy consumption across a town or city.

South Sioux City, Neb., will be the first community to deploy the new thermostat to help its 13,000 residents manage electricity costs, which are said to have risen steadily there in the past three years.

In the future, other municipalities will recruit residents to reduce energy consumption when demand spikes, a strategy known as automated demand response, or ADR.

As part of this, the residents would receive the $150 Honeywell Total Connect Comfort with ADR thermostat for free so that utilities can link to the home devices and reduce that residence's energy as needed.

Such an approach can help avoid brownouts and blackouts on the hottest days of the year, when power-grid stability is threatened.

Honeywell's thermostat can be controlled with a Total Connect Comfort app, available in versions for Apple iOS and Google Android devices.

Honeywell is based in Morris Township, N.J., but its division responsible for the Total Connect Comfort technology is based in Golden Valley.

This way when it’s 100 degrees, they can shut down your A/C so your next door neighbor can charge his Prius.

All animals are equal, but...

What happens if you put in a few manually controlled window AC units to augment your state controlled central AC unit?

Those units will have their own energy fingerprint. Smart Meter will report you.

I have the Honeywell wifi thermostat (without big brother) and it is great. If I’m in bed and don’t like the temperature, I pick up my phone and change it. If I’m away I can adjust the temp so it is right when I return.

I also have a Nest (which is more sophisticated) in a different house, but the Honeywell works much better with heat pumps.

They really do pay for themselves by not heating or cooling an empty home.

Why limit control to local pols and bureaucrats?

Just build a master control room under the White House so Obama can take control of every home environment in the country

After all, that is just about the only aspect of our lives they haven’t already taken control of.

Michelle Obama already tells us what to eat and drink, the EPA dictates how much water we can use to flush and how much electricity our refrigerators can consume, the Pentagon tells men and women in uniform what they can and cannot read, Homeland Security probes our body orifices before they let us on an airplane, the IRS decides the kind of taxes they will levy based on our political views, the NSA tracks our communications and the entire federal government will soon be dictating every aspect of our health care.

How can they trust us to adjust the temperature in our own homes?

Not in my home. Never. Ever.

Here is how it works.

They don't ASK you if you want the remote controlled meter. They simply install it.

If you DON'T want it, you either get NO SERVICE, or they add a HUGE SURCHARGE FEE to your bill to 'keep' the old meter.

No water meter here. It's called a well.

Those who do not have a 'meter' or pay a 'water bill' are being identified, and the EPA will soon be coming out to FINE you for ILLEGALLY removing WATER from the Aquifers. Then, they will force you to install a 'smart meter' on your well, and pay a monthly fee to the WATER COMPANY because you are taking THEIR water.

Think I'm kidding ?

Check out post 54. Maybe it's not really that "good."

The whole process is actually much more convenient than dragging our trash cans 1/4 mile down our road for pickup.

I talk to people "in town" and they are amazed I don't have garbage pickup. Like you, my driveway is 1/4 mile long. Rather than haul trashcans 1/4 mile to be emptied and then another 1/4 mile to get the cans back, I just take everything to the county dump which is two miles from here. Oh, and I save the garbage pickup fee, also.

What happens if you put in a few manually controlled window AC units to augment your state controlled central AC unit?

They will limit the amperage you are allowed to pull, or they will bill you at a higher RATE for using 'over' a specified 'amount' of electricity.

Some utility companies already have this 'in place'.

Most states are working on putting meters on private wells. It’s already that way in most of the NE. Well, [no pun intended :] that's too bad. I seriously doubt something like that would go over here in South Carolina. The vast majority of the state is rural and there are thousands of wells.

Wow! We were on the verge of purchasing a backup generator from Honeywell.

We have changed our mind and will go directly to Generac.

Not good for the elderly. This will lead to more deaths.

Which means Obamacare won't have any more expensive OUTLAYS for health care for the elderly. It's all part of the 'plan'.

I promise you it’s already in the works. The peasants won’t know about it until it’s too late.

Agenda 21 uber alles.

They know where your wells are (by your not paying a water bill) and will simply install meters on your well. Your bill will be paid to the local water company.

Within 10 years. If not sooner. Bet on it.

Actually a big plus for Medicare and SocSec financials....

Gas, coal or oil? Oh wait, I guess none of those would create a brown out or blackout.

The Amish are the only ones who got it right. They're untouchable.
No electronic tracking.
No tax oppression.
No electric? No big deal.
Gas prices sky rocket? No big deal.
Food shortages? So? They grow their own.
No dept. stores? Who cares?
Children becoming the property of the state? Not theirs!
Reading the Bible and quoting scriptures? Sure. That's how they talk. That's who they are.
