Snowden: More Public Servant than Criminal
Breitbart's Big Peace ^ | June 12, 2013 | Professor Peter Morici

Posted on 06/12/2013 1:25:02 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The revelation that the National Security Agency is tracking every phone call each American makes, and broadly mining internet data puts President Obama at the center of yet another controversy. He and supporters in the Republican leadership, not Edward Snowden, are making themselves villains.

Two sets of issues are central. Do NSA practices strike a reasonable balance between the threats posed by global terrorism and right to privacy? Are these the least intrusive necessary? Are safeguards against abuse adequate?

Will Edward Snowden be thrown in jail for revealing classified information under the Espionage Act or other statutes?

The president argues the nation needs to strike a balance between security and liberty. As with free speech--you can’t yell "fire" in a movie theater--the right to privacy is not absolute.

However, if Americans are going to have a reasoned discussion, they must know what the government is up to, especially when it collects broad information that could be used to paint a sophisticated picture of each American’s political leanings, sexual orientation and flavor of ice cream they prefer. The president can’t have it both ways--engage in an informed dialogue but not reveal the practices that need to be discussed....

The battle lines on this one is between the Statists, from Left or Right, and those who love Liberty. The Statists are all for the Leviathan State, they just do not agree on what to use it for.

I know.

The term is "metadata," data about data.

There is no term "megadata," other than it being a corruption of the term metadata.

When a politician says "Megadata," they are trying to repeat a talking point without understanding what they are saying.

The only possible use of "megadata" would be to speak of kilobytes, megabytes, terabytes of data, that is, the amount of storage being used.

Unless someone coined a new term that I haven't heard about yet.

... they just do not agree on what to use it for.

They agree on using it to kill us.

America's too dangerous an idea to let live.

Waiting for the NSA to ask for money to fix the problem.

I propose the following definition:

MegaData = ALottaBytes

(See YottaByte)

Mega data center is referring to the capacity of the datacenter, not the content stored there.

"Mega" is referring to the datacenter being huge. The datacenter was built next to a river so that the water can be used to cool the servers and storage devices that are being run there.

"Metadata" is data about data. Google it on Wiki. It's a long-standing term in the IT industry. It refers to you you tag the information for easy retrieval, or what you know about the ranges of values in data, or whether it's character or numeric, or address data or phone number data. It's information about the nature of the data, but not the data itself.

Nobody has yet denied the NSA is indeed doing everything Snowden claimed.

I’d suggest that MegaData is stored at a Mega Data Center.

Your answers that I’ve read in the past are as trite as the one you just posted here. I was asking a very simple question, IF you had information that you felt needed to be exposed, who would you trust to bring it to?

Yea AW, it doesn’t take a genius to know your answer regarding China. Either you want to answer the simple question, or you don’t.

Seems anyone who is willing to wait for the truth to come out, you have an issue with.

The government and media hyenas already are ridiculing him and trying their best to bring this young man down, but I’m not buying it.

Trite? Show me who else has posted this? "I don't trust liberals, libertarians or most republicans."

Seems anyone who is willing to wait for the truth to come out, you have an issue with.

Truth to come out? Did Snowden steal classified documents? Did he go to China? True? Yes or no?

Either you want to answer the simple question, or you don’t.

Do you believe stealing is criminal, unethical and immoral? If I had knowledge of wrongdoing I would contact a person I trusted who had some access to political powers. Why do you suppose Snowden didn't contact Dr. Paul? Or is it possible he did and was told he was a thief?

And...we’re done. All I see are questions from you when a simple answer was what I sought.

So, a person you trust, well that goes without saying doesn’t it? I was wondering who in a position of authority you would go to...

I was foolish for attempting to have a dialogue with you.

Your mind is made up, I find it most fascinating that there is no room for conversation with those who are so quick to make a choice with limited information.

I’ll just sit back and watch you attack others who have a different take on this whole mess. It’s rather interesting to me.

So, a person you trust

You didn't finish the sentence, why?

I find it most fascinating that there is no room for conversation with those who are so quick to make a choice with limited information.

Especially those who defend a self admitted thief who slithered off to China.

Hey, enjoy your hard core stance, perhaps those of us who are willing to get all the facts could be enlightened to your perspective. Yet, you continue to choose to be a nasty person who insults others.

What is nasty? Asking why you didn't finish a sentence? Calling a self admitted thief, a thief? Maybe you should do a little introspection.

Me- Did Snowden steal classified documents? Did he go to China? True? Yes or no?

You-Either you want to answer the simple question, or you don’t.

I did, did you? A bit hypocritical of you, wouldn't you admit?

Sorry, no longer interested in trying to appease your desire to have me see this wholly through your eyes. Thanks but I’ll figure it out when more is revealed.
