There are days I wish I was lawyer. It’d be almost too easy.

This is not a public school, it’s a Catholic school. So the legal issues may be different.

"When Charlesworth’s ex-husband showed up in the school parking lot - the school went into lockdown."

snip

'Charlesworth and her four kids, who also attended Holy Trinity School, have not been back since the January incident. A letter was sent home to parents the following day, explaining the situation and noting Charlesworth and her children were being put "on an indefinite leave.”'

snip

'Several parents at Holy Trinity, not disclosing their names out of safety concerns, said the district did the right thing in a no-win situation because they feared for the safety of their own children. Several parents mentioned being part of a movement to “pull kids out of the school” if Charlesworth returned.'

snip

"She is being paid through August, but doesn’t know where she’ll turn next. Her ex-husband is scheduled to be released from Jail at the end of June."

Now that I read the part about this lady’s husband showing up on the school’s property, I’m a bit disputed here. As a parent, I can see their point of view concerning the safety of their kids. And that is a private school, right? This is a tough one.

I am not without sympathy for the woman. But in the real world, private sector: One can easly lose one’s job for anything like this that is distracting, causes unplanned or excessive absences, brings negative publicity to the person or employer, etc.,etc.

It is unfortunate for her situation, but I expect it happens much more often than we hear about.

She was on "indefinite leave" for three months. Even though the perp was in prison. Why didn't she go back to work?

Terrible outcome. I can see why the school did what they did, but what’s the teacher supposed to do when she’s done everything right? I hope she does find another teaching job.

“I have not been back to a catholic church since this happened” said Charlesworth

Hmm.

I wonder if these types of firings go on at other places of employment.

While I sympathize with her when your life problems follow you to work to the point they need to go on lock down and somebody winds up with 2 felonies you’ve become a liability. If you really think that certain somebody is going to follow you to work, so much so that you warn your boss to be “on the lookout” that’s probably a good day to call in sick and get your life back under control.

She is being paid through August, but doesn’t know where she’ll turn next. Her ex-husband is scheduled to be released from Jail at the end of June.

Considering his history, it's likely she will end up as a homicide statistic........

Normally I would recommend home protection but in California.....who knows.

She's better off moving to a CPL friendly state and starting all over....

If the “domestic violence advocates” are upset about this, they may want to look into how CPS, in various states, treat women with abusive husbands. Thousands of kids are stolen by those monsters because the mother “failed to protect them against the abusive husband/father”. It’s a routine practice and it’s against the law, but they still have thousands of kids in custody for it.

Why do this teacher’s right to work, come ahead of childrens’ safety? The school is probably afraid of another Newton massacre. The teacher told them her husband was dangerous, and to “look out for him”. Well, guess what? It is not your employer’s responsibility to keep you safe from your ex-husband; the school is only responsible for keeping the children safe. I am sure lots of feminists will rally around this woman, but the fact is what her employer did is not illegal or discriminatory. They terminated her employment for safety reasons. Feminism and domestic violence advocates almost never consider children - only women.
