WASHINGTON: For the first time, America's racial and ethnic minorities make up about half of the under-5 age group, the US government said on Thursday. It's a historic shift that shows how young people are at the forefront of sweeping changes by race and class.
The new census estimates, a snapshot of the US population as of July 2012, come a year after the Census Bureau reported that whites had fallen to a minority among babies. Fueled by immigration and high rates of birth, particularly among Hispanics, racial and ethnic minorities are now growing more rapidly in numbers than whites.
Based on current rates of growth, whites in the under-5 group are expected to tip to a minority this year or next, said Thomas Mesenbourg, the Census Bureau's acting director.
The government also projects that in five years, minorities will make up more than half of children under 18. Not long after that, the total US white population will begin a decline in absolute numbers, due to aging baby boomers.
The nation's demographic changes are already stirring discussion as to whether some civil rights-era programs, such as affirmative action in college admissions, should be retooled to focus more on income rather than race and ethnicity. The Supreme Court will rule on the issue this month.
The gap between rich and poor in the US has now stretched to its widest since 1970, making opportunities to reach the middle class increasingly difficult.
Longer-term changes in family structure, such as a decline in marriage, have led to a rise in single-mother households across all racial groups, with the fastest growth now occurring among whites. More than 40 percent of newborns are now born out of wedlock, in families more likely to be low income.
The latest census numbers show:
* The population younger than 5 stood at 49.9 percent minority in 2012.
* For the first time in more than a century, the number of deaths now exceeds births among white Americans. This "natural decrease'' occurred several years before the government's original projection. For now, the white population is still increasing slightly, due to immigration from Europe.
* As a whole, the nonwhite population increased by 1.9 percent to 116 million, or 37 percent of the US The fastest percentage growth is among multiracial Americans, followed by Asians and Hispanics. Non-Hispanic whites make up 63 percent of the US; Hispanics, 17 percent; blacks, 12.3 percent; Asians, 5 percent; and multiracial Americans, 2.4 percent.
* Among the under-5 age group, 22 percent live in poverty. Black toddlers were most likely to be poor, at 41 percent, followed by Hispanics at 32 percent and whites at 13 percent. Asian toddlers had a poverty rate of 11 percent.
"More so than ever, we need to recognize the importance of young minorities for the growth and vitality of our labor force and economy," said William H Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution who analyzed the census data.
The gaps in achievement tend to emerge early in childhood, and disparities are especially evident in SAT admission scores. College Board data show that average scores spread as wide as 130-140 points in each of the reading, math and writing sections for a student with family income of less than $20,000, compared with a student with family income exceeding $200,000.
About 40 percent of whites age 25-29 graduate from college, compared with 15 percent for Latinos and 23 percent for blacks.
The days of AA are numbered. Only guilt ridden whites willfully give up their rights and advantages. Once whites are a minority we will be lucky if we aren’t put in relocation camps in the desert by our new people of color masters.
This might get me in trouble but I think with all the interracial dating and sex that goes on today, any children that come from it are classified as minorities. Black + White = Black. Asian + White = Asian. Hispanic + White = Hispanic (except George Zimmerman).
With that type of formula, now wonder whites are becoming the minority. I think all the multicultural rot forcefed in the schools is part of the liberal objective to outlaw racism by slowly breeding out the white race.
I have no problem with other races as individuals but since government gives overwhelming preference in society to non-whites in hiring, education, housing, etc. why would any child of mixed races NOT proclaim themselves a minority instead of white?
So what group of wimmin will make the most use of the free employer provided birth control??
White people have NEVER been a majority in this world and NEVER will be.

Previous generations of immigrants changed the ethnic make up of America. Previous generations were concerned about the large numbers of Catholic immigrants, and immigrants from southern and eastern Europe.
But, those groups assimilated.
Today, we don’t see the same assimilation as occured in previous generations.
Indeed, talk of mixed race relationships and babies being born leads one to believe that those of mixed backgrounds could well be the plurality of Americans a generation or two in the future.
A multi-ethnic America can survive and prosper. A multi-cultural America will fundamentally change this country. There is a difference. A multi-ethnic society of people living by traditional values would be beneficial. A multi-cultural society, of various competing unassimilated ethnic groups, overlayed with such lifestyles as the baby mama culture, will fundamentally transform America for the worse. It remains to be seen what will happen.
yes it’s one of the lowest in the state of FL , now contrast that to Jacksonville in Duval county which has a high crime rate, low schools , corruption , high debt etc.
we have the best schools in the state every year, we are not in debt, infact we still have money in the bank to build and expand of which the county is doing.
White “men” are too busy raising their cats and playing fantasy football and video games these days.
I’m sure the feds go over the census and see our white county with no crime hardly and best school grades and not in debt as a target to bring in illegals and non Speakers and muslims.
Hell I have only seen a handful of muslims in over 10 years here and they were tourists
it’s like African Americans are black, they are not I know a few Africans right form Africa not hundreds of years ago who are white and have become American.

WOW beautiful, tell a black person in America or a left wing dope that whites or she is African and they get all confused and start blabbing er er er er UH er huh er er .
Because while he was out wilding, what few good women there are get snapped up by men who saw marriage as a life goal and did not think a period of wilding was a prerequisite to that goal.
Now he has to hunt for a good woman who some how survived her 20’s without a series of failed relationships that left her with a bad attitude and a kid or two.
This is the other side of the coin on the issue of delaying marriage for an extended adolescence. It damages people, especially women and then the men can’t find a suitable marriage partner when they want to settle down.
Your son limited his own choices.
If he is serious about marriage it’s matchmaker and blind date time. The wives of friends and co-workers might also be a good source, or perhaps a mail order bride from the Philippines or S. Korea.

They get the sausage, and the government provides the rest. So both parties come out ahead, the men get the action for free, and the women get their 9 month reward, and the taxpayers pick up the bill for both of them.
A company I worked for changed hiring preference from “minority” to “historically underutilized in manufacturing”, or words to that effect. White males were the minority in that company.

Whats to assimilate? You don’t have to leave your culture now. You don’t have to cut the strings to your home country. Speak Spanish, fine we will change our language requirements to match your needs. Watch English-ed based TV, no fear, we will give you Univision, Telemondo etc. Spanish newspapers and radio stations.
They haven’t left their old culture to develop a new culture in America, they just changed their location.
Before they eliminate “White culture” can they please...Please...PLEASE present the superior alternative that they prefer...
