White House: U.S. To Give Syria Rebels Military Aid After Chemical Attacks

In a sharp escalation of the U.S. role in Syria's bloody civil war, the White House announced late Thursday that it will provide military aid to rebels fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad after confirming that his government used chemical weapons on the opposition.

Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes told reporters on a conference call that President Barack Obama had heard pleas from Syria's rebel Supreme Military Council (SMC) for more help. "Our aim is to be responsive," Rhodes said, underlining that the new assistance would have "direct military purposes."

My preference would be to step back, step away from the conflict, and let Russia run the show. The Russians don't want Iran running the Middle East any more than we do.

Over a year ago we could have “lead” this and won rapidly, there wouldn't have been all these various groups knocking each other out in a blood bath....instead, as been stated....a vacume opened and in came the terrorists and Russia. Now ‘O’ steps up from the ‘rear’...basically following France and Britain.

Putin would just as soon they sling things out, with his help of course, he sees no concern that Jordon, Israel and Lebanon are now seeing this war seep over their borders. As for Iran...their election bears into this equation...Fri. will be telling on that front. But Russia and Iran are bedfellows, even though we know Russia is simply pimping Iran for Putins own agenda..

Obama consistantly hesitates at making decisions when we can lead and win and make a difference...and it always costs us far more than is necessary in every way....though of course i believe that is his intention.

The problem is someone is throwing around chemical weapons...and the war is going into Jordon, Lebanon and Israel. So at this point it's got to be dealt with....if it's not dealt with then no doubt we'll be headed to a third ww.

They certainly did and it was all over the news complete with dead bodies of those affected. And prior, if you remember Iraq and Iran were at war at that time.

More than disturbing. I’ve never been a ‘conspiracy’ theorist, but since Benghazi, I’m well aware of what the powers that be are capable of doing to our own in order to further their agenda. Now I look back and am questioning ALL of it and it’s no longer a left/right issue...Just what would the government do...how far would they go...how many Americans would they kill or let die in order to garner public support for going to war, for taking our guns, for imposing martial law? I’ve quit being loyal...I’m questioning everything....if seeking the truth now means I’m wearing a tin-foil hat...I do so proudly.
