New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie declined an invitation to attend a major gathering of social conservatives this week in Washington, opting instead to make a high-profile appearance at a forum organized by former President Bill Clinton in Chicago.
Christie's decision was hardly a bombshell: Up for re-election in November in a Democratic-leaning state, the governor can hardly afford to be seen courting Christian conservatives and sharing a stage with divisive figures like Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain.
But his absence was a sore point for many conservative activists who traveled to the Faith and Freedom Coalition's "Road to Majority" conference to see a bumper crop of GOP stars, including would-be presidential candidates like Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
But there is harder evidence that Christie has problems with Republicans outside of New Jersey. A Gallup poll released earlier this month pegged Christie's approval rating among national Republicans at just 58 percent, and almost a quarter of Republicans view him unfavorably.

I’m surprised he doesn’t just jump ship and run on the Democrat ticket either as Prez or VP. He would draw away from the GOP moderates and add that to the Democrat voter tally (Generally they almost always vote for their nominee no matter who it is unlike the GOP) to win the office.
I don’t think so...Humpty Dumpty couldn’t be put together again.
Christie may once have been the darling of conservatives seeking ANYONE to replace zero, but I think that the bloom is off that rose.
Christie isn’t a conservative and, if he runs in ‘16, he will quickly lose in the primaries.

Christie is a self serving politician without a conservative core. He benefitted from Romney losing, so his actions prior to the election make sense. His handling of the senate seat in NJ again show him putting himself first before country, party, whatever. He is a blowhard.
The only “repair” is total demolition of the bridge behind you.

I had said at the time, that Christie should have appointed Robert Torricelli as the interim Senator representing New Jersey. It would have been the most honest course he could have taken.
And it would have done absolutely no harm to the Republican minority in the US Senate, while sticking it in the eye of the Democrats.

Guessing it'll be Christie, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan or a combo thereof (all or each of whom will guarantee another democrat win and significantly more stay-at-home non-votes).
The wining and dining with Obama and involvement with the amnesty bill leave a nasty after-taste that will last far beyond 2016.

Good way to put it. Christie’s credibility is not any higher than Obama’s as far as I’m concerned. And, there is nothing he can do to regain it - as far as I’m concerned. If he gets the GOP nomination I’m either staying home or voting for the Tea Party candidate, should there be one. Yes, btw, I know the consequences of voting third party, but so be it....

Too true. Repair work won’t correct the cause. He needs a complete mindset transplant.
Any attempt to Band-Aid relations with real conservatives would be an obvious fraud. We’ve been screwed enough by phonies since Dole.

Conservatives need to dump their GOP registrations. If they did that in large numbers, the liberal GOPe might get a clue.

Chris Christie needs to ‘do’ a Charlie Crist and just change parties.
