Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) is the big prize in the quest for more than 70 votes for immigration reform, but the Gang of Eight is split over whether he’s worth wooing. Watch the video here.

Cornyn told Republican colleagues at a meeting Wednesday that he would consider making changes to his amendment to bolster the border-security provisions of the Senate bill.

> That way the president will have amnesty for illegals
and the country will be fast-tracked to permanent progressivism.

And bankruptcy for all citizens and the government...

Maybe Cornyn likes the sound of the name, “Traitorcornyn,” which will be his if he betrays his country by his vote.

FR (Website software) does not screen “The Hill” for exception. Apparently, the poster decided to do it voluntarily. Unless FR decided ‘very recently’ to excerpt the Hill, but has not change the software to reflect it. And if that was the case, we would see a history change to the article above by a moderator. Have a good day.

Cornyn... I guess you forgot that KBH retired because her RINO stripes made her un-reelectable. Be stupid at your own peril. We Texans are watching.

Cornyn told Republican colleagues at a meeting Wednesday that he would consider making changes to his amendment to bolster the border-security provisions of the Senate bill.

Either Cornyn, or (it's not a direct quote) the author of this article did a poor job of communicating. Does that mean:

1) He wants to make changes to an amendment that was supposed to "bolster the border-security provisions of the Senate bill" to make it more pleasing (i. e. by weakening it) to the Chuck Schumer GOP gang (McCain etc.)?

2) He wants to make changes in it "to bolster the border-security provisions of the Senate bill?" I, like most of you no doubt, don't trust Cornyn, but in the bizarro world of the senate, Cornyn's attempt to look like a border hawk to some Texas voters might result in a "poison pill."

I know that, no matter if the bill says it will stop 100% of illegal immigration for 1000 years before the "trigger" for path-to-citizenship, Obama (and perhaps the next GOP POTUS if that ever happens again) would find a way to confer citizenship anyway.

Obama's EO would read, I am issuing this order to honor [SIC] the intent of the Comrehensive XXXXXX Act of 2013....

However, before "see you at the signing" (as GWB said about the 2007 amnesty), come the votes in congress. The Dems + the "Chuck Schumer GOP" are very paranoid about poison bills in the amnesty bill. LINK: "It’s a poison pill," McCain said of the Cornyn plan. "Hopefully we can have an alternative that satisfies some of the concerns without killing the bill. … It’s not possible for us to support his amendment as it is presently written because it is a poison pill."

Note that the title of that article I just linked is " The Cornyn-Rubio amendment effectively eliminates pathway to citizenship "

It looks like it is a poison pill after all because Rubio is trying to work out a compromise to it to keep Dems happy.

I voted for Cornyn after he helped to kill the 2007 amnesty, but, say, in the last 3 years, he has been making disturbing statements about immigration (Like taunting Obama for not pushing "immigration reform").

I hope Cornyn will do the right thing, but "He who sups with the Devil should have a long spoon."

Wrote his office a bit ago and told him we are watching this immigration bill very closely.

Told him to vote against this bill.

I’ve never trusted this guy.

I think you and I would agree, that there is simply no need for a new bill. We have all the laws on the books today, to handle the situation.

Anyone wanting this bill, telegraphs right up front that they want Amnesty for the illegals. They can parse it any way they like, but amnesty and increased flow of legals from North and Central America is what this bill will provide.

Nothing even remotely positive will come out of this. NOTHING!

>>We have millions of illegals because our government refuses to enforce the border. That is not complicated. Why did they allow this to happen<<

I know this sounds crazy, but I believe there is a globalist agenda. Perhaps the integration of the Americas. I dunno, but what other explanation is there?

Trans-Texas corridor, Mexican trucker pilot program, open borders, lax immigration enforcement, push for amnesty in 1984, again in Jorge Bush's admin, now again.

Import poverty...kill the middle class. Not exactly sure why, but the evidence is here, now and real.

Correct, and this is based not on our prejudices, but on what happened after the 1986 amnesty passed. I have spent some time south of the border, and I think many good people live there, but when they vote here, most vote for very evil people.

But now the lurch to the left will be more extreme. Importing 10s of millions of leftist voters portends more Obama-type presidencies, with aggressively partisan IRS, DOJ, DHS, etc. etc.

I completely agree. If someone can’t see the problems with this, they simply don’t have the mental faculties to project for themselves where this leads us as a nation.

Time to email/call/fax all US Senators and House members. Here’s a sample letter.

Dear Honorable US Senator ...,

Sir, I am extremely upset with this latest sham amnesty immigration bill the US Senate is currently debating.

Words cannot express my anger at the utter foolishness of this bill. Rewarding criminal behavior encourages more criminal behavior. People cannot begin their careers in America by breaking the law. Further, it hurts minimum wage American workers by causing them to compete with millions of foreign workers. by I am dismayed at those in Congress who lack the understanding of this critical issue to our nation.

I along with most other Americans are in favor of legal immigration for those who are willing to learn our language, culture, and invest the time and money required to become a U.S. citizen - but not for those who willfully break on our laws, spit on our country, demand benefits, and are not willing to go through proper channels to become an American citizen.

What is the solution? It won’t be easy because we didn’t get into this situation overnight. I believe we need to do the following immediately:

1) Secure our borders
2) Enforce existing law
3) Not allow any amnesty provisions of any kind
4) Improve our visa system
5) Prosecute and fine those businesses which knowingly employ illegal workers
6) Give law enforcement officials the necessary resources and authority to combat illegal immigration
7) Deport illegal aliens violating the law after being fingerprinted, photographed, iris scanned, charged with a felony, and their information placed in a national database.
8) Send a bill for deportation/prison costs to the embassy of the illegal immigrant’s national origin.
9) 2nd time and thereafter repeat offenses by illegal aliens should be sent to work prison camps for a maximum of 6 months - building the southern fence/wall.
10) Seize and liquidate all assets from illegal aliens and use the proceeds for our military and local law enforcement.
11) Must not give illegal immigrants government welfare benefits of any kind, including Social Security
12) Designate English as our national language
13) Change the 14th Amendment regarding birthright citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants
14) Put pressure on the Mexican government and other nations to reduce illegal immigration to America.
15) Encourage only legal immigration and citizenship to for those wanting to become Americans.

These ENFORCED changes would strengthen America greatly.

Please consider voting against this terrible legislation when it comes before the Senate floor.

Sincerely and respectfully,
