The 14-year-old kid arrested over his pro-NRA shirt now faces a year in jail

The West Virginia eighth-grader who was suspended and arrested in late April after he refused to remove a t-shirt supporting the National Rifle Association appeared in court this week and was formally charged with obstructing an officer.

As CBS affiliate WTRF reports, 14-year-old Jared Marcum now faces a $500 fine and a maximum of one year in prison.

The boy’s father, Allen Lardieri, is not pleased.

“Me, I’m more of a fighter and so is Jared and eventually we’re going to get through this,” Lardieri told WTRF. “I don’t think it should have ever gotten this far.”

“Every aspect of this is just totally wrong,” Lardieri added. “He has no background of anything criminal up until now and it just seems like nobody wants to admit they’re wrong.”

Officials at Logan Middle School in Logan County, West Va. maintain that Marcum, who has since completed eighth grade, was suspended for one day because he caused a disruption after a teacher asked him to remove a shirt emblazoned with a hunting rifle and the statement “protect your right.”

“She said, ‘Are you supposed to wear that in school?’” Marcum had previously explained in an interview with local station, WOWK-TV. “I said, ‘I don’t see why I shouldn’t.’”

Back when I was in school, no one ever could have imagined that a school would call the police over something such as this. But today, it seems to happen quite often.

This is completel BS to further create an anti-gun culture. Unless I’m missing something here, the citizenry should remove all the apparatus involved in this whole episode by force if necessary.

He is 14, where is the previso about not reporting on juvy crime or school matters in the Press. Why is he being pursued as an adult anyway.

Time for some serious housecleaning in that district.

We need to do this in twos- show up with a NRA t-shirt AND a rainbow gay pride t-shirt

Ask them which you are allowed to wear?

OR EVEN BETTER!!!

Wear a pro-NRA t-shirt and then underneath it put an ANTI-GUN t-shirt and see which they “allow” you to wear

Take video

The judge should dismiss this case in the interest of justice.

The founding Fathers got upset over a 2% increase in tea tax.

It seems like stealing our freedom of speech is a much bigger issue.....

This is raw fascism! What makes the D.A. think they can make the charge stick? Nobody prosecutes unless conviction is near certain, so what are they thinking?

The only police I ever saw in school were Officer Mike & Officer Steve being introduced to us by the teacher. They said,

“Kids, I’m Mike and this is Steve. Now, if you’ve got a problem or there’s something wrong, you come see us. We’re your friends.”

We felt safer. So much has changed.

No judge should permit this frivolous charge to be heard.

Justice in Acirema? Surely you jest. How else to explain the OJ acquittal and Zimmerman’s likely lynching?

Harrassment by any other name....this incident happened back in April....Obama's Anti-Gun Army behind this...sane people would never have carried it this far. Taking you eyes off Benghazi, Fast & Furious and the FBI, IRS scandals.

"Students across Logan County, W. Va., showed their support for Jared Marcum by wearing NRA apparel on Monday.

"Their version is that the suspension was for disrupting the educational process, not the shirt," White told the Associated Press. He added that Marcum wore the shirt to express his support for the Second Amendment, and did not violate the school’s dress code.

If this 14 year old had stolen a car, tried to evade police and then run down a mother pushing a baby carriage, his name and ID would be WITHHELD “due to his age”. He would (maybe) be tried and then in Juvie Court.
