New York police sued over surveillance of Muslims

The New York Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against the New York Police Department over its surveillance of Muslim communities, accusing the police of trampling on religious freedoms and constitutional guarantees of equality.

The surveillance by the NYPD's intelligence division has extended beyond New York City's five boroughs into neighboring New Jersey and other nearby states. The police department says that surveillance of Muslims is legal under an earlier federal court order.

The lawsuit is the latest skirmish in an ongoing battle between the NYPD and civil liberties advocates over the department's aggressive policing tactics - including its stop-and-frisk practices, which are the subject of a separate federal lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, in Brooklyn, seeks to put an end to the NYPD's surveillance of Muslims, the destruction of all records on individuals created as a result of the program and the appointment of an independent monitor to oversee the department.

"When a police department turns law-abiding people into suspects because they go to a mosque and not a church or a synagogue, it violates our Constitution's guarantees of equality and religious freedom," said Hina Shamsi, director of the American Civil Liberties Union National Security Project. She called the NYPD monitoring "suspicionless surveillance" and "religious profiling."

Proving the myth of “Moderate Muslims”.

They want to hide their terror fomenting ways.

Today the NSA told us that there were at least 50 foiled terrorist attacks by Muslims in the last 11 years.

That is quite some warfare directed at the USA.

So tell me again why we shouldn’t watch Muslims closely????

Only a fool thinks izlime is a religion. And a bigger fool who thinks it is a religion of peace.

It is a violent political ideology whose aim is world domination.

The local police, state police, NSA, CIA, military, and every other rational person in the multiverse all have my full permission to spy on each and every muslim everywhere.

They, and their religion, are not to be trusted.

Period.

I imagine they’ll be suing the NSA next AND THEY’LL WIN! The NSA should only be spying on white, conservative, Christian Americans. Muzzies are off limits. Hopefully, white, conservative, Christian Americans will be a “minority” after Los Gangstas de Ocho pass their fiasco of a bill and we’ll be able to sue the hell out of everybody.

Guess it is time for all conservatives, veterans, Christians, southerners, cell phone users, Internet users, telephone users, Tea Party members, true republicans (if any remain), to all get together and sue the stinking federal government in a class action law suit.

For any number of reasons, people need to l\leave NY. And any other locality. People have a choice. The fact is that Libs will cater to muslims regardless and you can either go vigilante, or save yourselves and your family. Your job and material possessions are not worth it. Or if they are, stay in dhimmitude.

People for thousands of years moved huge distances about naked so don’t tell me it can’t be done because ‘X” It can.

Go to areas with non muslim populations and with non liberal governance. Texas, AZ etc. Rebuild there and let the sXitholes burn to the ground. When they are total war zones, let them kill each other. When they are dead, rebuild a muslim free America.

The reality is that as long as libs are allowed power, that is the alternative.

RE: Muslims in Texas

http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/irmxh

Texas has the eighth-largest Muslim population in the United States. In 1990 there were approximately 140,000 Muslims in Texas, which represented 0.7 percent of the state population and 2.8 of the total Muslim population in the United States. Most Muslims are concentrated in the urban centers of the state.

Houston has some twenty-two Islamic centers and mosques and a Muslim population of 57,000, and Dallas has fifteen centers and 30,000 Muslims. The Muslim population is 4,000 in Fort Worth and 3,000 in Arlington.

Austin and San Antonio each have 5,000, El Paso has 1,500, and there are small Muslim communities in Bryan-College Station, Corpus Christi, and Kingsville. Among the more prominent Islamic organizations in the state are the Muslim Students Association, the Islamic Society of North America, the Muslim Arab Youth Association, the Islamic Circle of North America, and the Al Quaran-Was-Sunnah Society.

I think based on recent news the government spies on everyone so a judge should throw this out.

Liberals don’t want us watching Muslims closely because liberal theology is that this is profiling, and liberals are against profiling.

Liberals don’t want to offend the sensibilities of Muslims by profiling.

Liberals say that it is prejudice to think that Muslims commit atrocities or acts of terror/war in greater proportions than others. The wise philosopher, Whoopi Goldberg, called Timothy McVeigh a Christian terrorist, to prove that not all terrorists are Muslims.

So, we have to bend over backwards to prove to Al Qaeda and Muslims that we are not singling them out.

if they stopped 50 attacks how come they missed the one that blew up the Boston marathon?

even after the Russians told the FBI about the guys...

oh wait, because when NSA collects domestic communications it isnt allowed to profile muslims- right? No “Jihad” no “Kill infidels” no “Allu Akbar”, no collect calls to Yemen

Oh well

I am guessing what the NSA surveillance stopped were 49 “Tea Party” or “Patriot” or “Traditional Marriage” groups applying for tax exempt status- we should all feel safer

Source please?

Not the part about 50 plots, where did they dare mention TROP?

By making a Mosque safe from surveillance the court would be creating a safe haven for terrorists and any other law breaker that needs a place to plan his crime.
