3 Former NSA Employees Praise Edward Snowden, Corroborate Key Claims
The Atlantic ^ | June 18, 2013 | Conor Friedersdorf

USA Today has published an extraordinary interview with three former NSA employees who praise Edward Snowden's leaks, corroborate some of his claims, and warn about unlawful government acts.

Thomas Drake, William Binney, and J. Kirk Wiebe each protested the NSA in their own rights. "For years, the three whistle-blowers had told anyone who would listen that the NSA collects huge swaths of communications data from U.S. citizens," the newspaper reports. "They had spent decades in the top ranks of the agency, designing and managing the very data collection systems they say have been turned against Americans. When they became convinced that fundamental constitutional rights were being violated, they complained first to their superiors, then to federal investigators, congressional oversight committees and, finally, to the news media."

In other words, they blew the whistle in the way Snowden's critics suggest he should have done. Their method didn't get through to the members of Congress who are saying, in the wake of the Snowden leak, that they had no idea what was going on. But they are nonetheless owed thanks.

I lived through Watergate and this is how the leaks unfolded that drove Nixon to resign. Painfully slow. Drip... drip... drip...

The majority of Americans have no idea they have lost America. Before King Obama leaves America will not have the resources to defend ourselves and our freedoms will be gone. Guess they prefer communism.

I assumed Florida. I’m not very exotic in my thinking.

A couple of days ago I started to think that maybe he was in the states, that made more sense than Hong Kong. (to me,anyhow)

lol...sorry, I thought you were following the "Bourne" thing.

In the second movie, "Bourne Supremacy", all the secret squirrels are meeting, talking about how to find Jason Bourne, then a lackey comes running in and says "You're not gonna believe this. Jason Bourne just popped up on the grid in Naples."

He was talking about Italy, though.

The first three are great (the Matt Damon ones). The fourth one with Jeremy Renner was crap.

This has been going on a lot longer, in some degree, than is currently being discussed. The Starr report mentions Bill Clinton’s warning Monica to be more careful in their phone discussions as he believed his phone was being tapped by either a foreign government or the FBI. He knew what was going on then at least with respect to our government and “friendly” governments they likely had agreements with - consider Echelon and Carnivore. I recall being told in unclassified briefings to be careful - that all electronic communications in the world were being monitored, the implication was that the US was trying to be in strict compliance with the law and not monitoring its own citizens and the Brit’s likewise - each country was likely monitoring the other’s communications and if there was a threat letting the other have enough info to deal with it. This was during the Clinton administration, it sounds like things just evolved and with this administration there are no limits.

You are wrong; even if the funding for the Armed Forces were cut to zero we would have the resources to defend ourselves. (What is a militia?)
The resources wouldn't magically disappear even if the entire Federal Government did.

Thanks to the Lawyers, we now have what Engineers have known forever - a system built on feedback that approaches unity will destroy that system.

I was in high school when that all started. Was a staunch Republican but I remember how, after a couple years, you just got tired of the constant scandal. Make it go away.
