The time for climate action is now
Los Angeles Times ^ | June 20, 2013 | Editorial

Early predictions made by climate scientists — back when much of the nation was still dubious about any kind of greenhouse effect and many denied it existed — are coming true even more quickly than expected.

...And that's worth remembering when President Obama releases his expected proposal for reducing the carbon footprint, which will almost surely include new restrictions for coal-burning plants, the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases. Adjusting to climate change will require clear thinking and significant investment, but if the nation sticks its collective head in the sand, it will find that sand covered by rising seas.

Good point, you said it well.

Cap and Trade does not reduce emissions. Yet the enviro extremists see this as a key policy in their global warming campaign. I never understood why, but, apparently, many never think through what these actions means, or how a policy such as this doesn’t accomplish what they say they want to accomplish.

[[1. The earth’s climate has changed many times in history.]]

Our great lakes were formed by global climate change-

[[2. We don’t fully understand the natural cycles involved with climate. And we don’t fully understand how much man may have contributed to this.]]

Sure we do- at least as to how much man has contributed- we contribute a scant 0.004% to the total atmospheric CO2- nature supplies the other 99.996%- perhaps we shoudl be chatrging nature a carbon tax- If our pesident is goign to insist on lying to the american people by claiming man is causing global warming, and he wants to charge humans, then the tax shoudl NOT exceed 0.004% of a dollar per year per person-

[[3. Even if we want to say, for sake of argument, that man is significantly impacting the climate, what exactly should be done about this?]]

We don’t even have to go there- man is not significantly impacting global warming- no more than he did when the mile htick glaciers over chicago receeded back durign thel ittle ice age- nature took care of the lciamte back then, it will do so agin-

[[Doesn’t there have to be a cost/benefit review of any proposed actions?]]

Not when you’re a democrat- all you have to do is declare an emercy, you don’t even have to prove it, you just have to pay off a few ‘scientists’ and that’s all that’s needed- kkkuomo is doign the saem damn thing in NY by declarign an emergency cocnerning guns- no vote needed- just ram through the unconstitutional law-

[[The same amount of “evil” CO2 is allowed to be emitted.]]

to that scientists say ‘so what?” CO2 does NOT cause global warming- CO2 rises AFTER global warmign happens- as the earth is warmed, CO2 trapped in ice and the cold oceans rises into atmosphere raisign hte overall amount- As the cliamte changes to colder again, more precipitation happens, and CO2 falls back to earth gettign trapped again- Sceintists know this- yet most will NOT admit htis because they are beign paid to perpetrate a LIE

So, we obviously have now reached a similar consensus as have scientists around the globe. Get out your floaties cause the waters gotta rise. Probably pushed higher because of the increasing winds you have observed at your location. It’s good to be a rocket surgeon.

Fine, everybody that believes in man-made warming can lead by example and live without AC and walk to work.

there you go! Proof of the hockey stick in action...

I think I’ll deal with the climate change by having a nice outdoor lunck in a couple of hours, followed by a cold beer as I watch the sun go down tonight. Darn climate — changes ever day, round the clock, month after month!

I think the first thing we have to do about global warming or whatever they are currently calling their hoax, is shut down the LaT’s printing presses because they heat up the air too much.

like someoen said since our contribution is suchj a negkligible 0.004 percent, claimign htat this insignificant amount is changing climates isl iek tryign to claim that two folks pissign in the ocean causes the ocean to significantly wamr up

Actually, the predictions I recall as an undergrad geology student involved the coming ice age, not warming.

Considering the warmists thought we were going to be roasting (or drowning near the coasts) by now, the actual slow cooling trend of the last decade and a half is sort of a blast from the past.

I nominate the Fat Bastard himself, Algore, to go first.

somethign insidious just occured to me-

The left is desperately tryign to increase the price of energy, fuel, heat etc- by blaming us for ‘global wamring’- but the FACT is that we arep oised to run into another COLD period on earth very soon, which means that peopel will need fuel and heating much more than we do now wich means we will be payign hte higher prices which the govenrment is cuaisng to energy prices i nthe name of global wamring

I think these criminals KNOW that global warmign is coming, and so are goign to ram through high energy prices in the name of global wamring so that when global cooling hits us i nthe not too distant future, we’ll be saddled with energy prices we cvan’t afford

What the hell is wrogn with the left? Will they not be happy until they’ve compeltely destroyed thsi country and everyopne in it?

They should contact The Economist about how the planet has continued to get warmer. The Economist a few months ago came clean on the subject and admitted that although CO2 has continued to climb, there has not been a significant temperature increase in over 15 years.

The thing about riding a dead horse (climate change) - whipping it doesn’t make it go any faster.

No, they aren't.

For right now at least, the world is not getting warmer. They said it would. They were wrong. Probably because rather then study the climate they started using computer models where anything they don't understand is put in as a static number. And there is a lot they don't understand.

Something like you.

I’m a warming agnostic.
Don’t know if the earth is warming or cooling.
Don’t know if warming is bad or good.
Don’t know if any of this is related to human activity.
Don’t know if there’s anything we can do about it.
Therefore I plan on ignoring the whole subject until someone wants what I have to pay for it, then I want proof.

Maybe we’re at that last point already.

years ago they claiemd gthe ‘hole in the ozone was goign to cause mass extinctions’ and so they banned propellents- the earth didn’t go extinct, there were no massive die offs directly attributable to hte ozone, and the ozone apparently healed itself DESPITE the fact that many coutnries still use the banned propellents

Do these imbeciles ever consider a lot of our climate depends on that big, bright yellow thing in the sky?

Mankind is so insignificant. Mother Nature will do whatever she pleases to do.

The saddest part is that NONE of the GOP are SERIOUSLY callign hte left ot hte carpet for htis- they are goign right along with hte left on this issue when in reality they shoudl be standign at the podium and demanding htat the left explain how the world has NOT warmed since 1989 until now, DESPITE THE FACT that CO2 has icnreased- and the GOP shopuld DEMAND that the left PROVE their case before enactign a law to pay for a crisis that doesn’t exist and is nothgin but an attempt ot exloit an invented crisis- and hte GOP shoudl get serious abotu htis threatening prosecution for anyone who tries to STEAL money from the pbulic bases on false pretenses-

Our govenrment is supposed to be workign FOR US, not workign to cripple us finacially at evey turn-
