Not So Fast: Not Everyone Loves the New Senate Border-Security Plan
ABC News ^ | June 20, 2013 | by Chris Good

A “deal” on border security may get attached to the Senate immigration bill, but not everyone is in love with it.

While the new amendment has been hailed as a “deal” that will bring new votes on board with reform, Sens. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., and David Vitter, R-La., doused the idea in cold, border-security-first water Tuesday afternoon as Corker and Hoeven were unveiling it.

“I do not think this amendment is going to touch many of the objections that I spoke about,” Sessions, R-Ala., told reporters after a news conference hosted by conservative senators and the group Tea Party Patriots.

Conservatives have demanded that citizenship (or green cards) for undocumented immigrants must be conditioned on border-security benchmarks. Without these “triggers,” the senators have said, immigration reform is a no-go.

And without those triggers, so is the Corker-Hoeven deal, in their eyes.

“Apparently plan B is to bring up this Corker-Hoeven amendment very, very quickly, and a lot of hoopla about border security, and try to pass it then, with that amendment, over 60 votes,” Vitter said. “Again, I think it’s important that we look at the details of the amendment. Let’s actually read it before we vote on it.”

Read it before voting on it? That's heresy!

Read the bill before you vote???

What lunatic would you be if you did that, oh, that's right, that's what the GOP promised they would do in 2010, if they were to be elected!

Who on earth would expect an elected official to do what they promised before getting elected!

Oh, that's right, only those radical conservatives in the GOP, especially the TEA Party, that's who.

Anyone in DC listening?

We, the people are for certain, McConnell and Boehner, are YOU listening?

Can you hear us NOW?

Who CARES what promises they make? These guys just don’t get it - - “promises” are not worth the paper they’re written on. They can have all the “promises” and “triggers’ in the world and they will still be meaningless.

FIRST, get border security DONE, THEN see where we stand with letting migrant workers come and go on a temporary legal basis.

No deal McRubio. Do your homework, then present a plan for securing the border or go pound sand!

llegal aliens invade the USA for Welfare and Wages.

1.) End the Federal ‘Anchor Baby Law.’

2.) End the Federal ‘Hospital Emergency Room No Payment Law’ (EMTALA).

3.) End ANY other Welfare to Aliens.

4.) Fine US employers $1,000 per day per alien employee hired.

5.) Spend NO money on “securing the border.” It is 2,000 miles of desert.

6.) Spend money on Chainlink/ Concertina wire prisons in the desert for repeat offenders who have invaded our Country.

7.) Transfer Border Invasion Enforcement to the US Coast Guard and the US National Guard in each State, and controlled by each States’ Governor.

8.) Repeal all State and Federal Laws that prohibit voter officials and Police from requesting proof of US Citizenship for any reason what so ever.

This whole border fence is BS. Illegal immigration needs to be discouraged.

We ought to pass Corker-Hoeven and scrap the rest of the bill.

Just ask millions of vets who enlisted under the promise of "free" healthcare for life if they stayed on for twenty.

Who cares what promises they make?

Agreed. First of all, this negotiating just about the border assumes (which isn't true) real US citizens except for cheap labor interests want the invaders to stay in the US. Secondly, it doesn't set up benchmarks; it just hires more federal employees. Thirdly, what's to stop our courts from keeping the "invaders can stay" parts and declare the "protect the borders" parts illegal.

No, the only thing we should even be talking about is simultaneously keeping invaders out of the US and sending home those who are here.
