WOW, what huge news this is! Senator Elbert L. Guillory, who represents Louisiana Senate District 24, made an announcement today that will certainly rock the State of Louisiana for weeks to come. In the face of what happened a couple of days ago with Karen Carter Peterson speaking about how those who oppose Obamacare are racist, today’s breaking news was a breath of fresh air from a common sensed individual.
Guillory showed up to the @Large Conference this weekend and gave a speech.
With each passing day, I have become disappointed in the Democratic Party. What would be the impact on schools due to immigration? One of the biggest disappointments has been breakdown of American families. Their policies have encouraged the high teen birthrate, high school drop out rates, high unemployment. Children are encouraged to get the crazy check instead of honkering down to get an education. Minority unemployment is in the stratosphere.
Guillory coined the word “Scaredy Pants Crisis Management.” I want better for my country and Louisiana. We must help America find her path home. The people in this room today seek an alternative solution to these problems of America. We have received some pretty good deals under the Republican Party. Republicans helped LBJ pass the Civil Rights Act over the OBJECTIONS of most Democrats. President Nixon left Vietnam and brought the money home and invested in America; Obama hasn’t done anything like that.
I pledged my dues, and I look forward to creating new partnerships in the State of Louisiana. I am of this day joining Frederick Douglass as a Republican.
Guillory won a special election to the Louisiana State House of Representatives in 2004. He served in the House until 2009, when he was elected to the Senate in another special election. He has served the Louisiana State Senate since then, representing the 24th district.
Guillory earned his BS from Virginia State University. He went on to receive his JD from Rutgers University.
He knows we in Louisiana are conservative. He has Louisiana values

great. these democrat politicians turned republican are often the best kind of politician. the late great Ronald Reagan being a prime example.

My parents were democrats long ago. Back then being a dem meant something, we have nothing to fear but fear itself, the buck stops here, ask not what your country can do for you... They became Republicans around the same time Pres. Reagan did, and for the same reason, they didn’t leave the party, the party left them.
I’m happy he’s leaving the Democrats because I think they are disgusting but I’m flat out not happy with the Republicans, either. I do wish him the best and I hope he can help draw black people away from the Democrats, the Democrats use black Americans.

Elbert is a chameleon. Guillory was originally a Republican then became a Democrat in 2007 to get elected and now he’s jumping ship again back to the GOP.

exactly. all of my family are ohio dems as well. a dem will move out of the party out of disgust with what it has become, not because they have any admiration for the republican establishment. that sparks a few random thoughts.
they tend to instinctively detest and distrust big business. going back to the revolution, they laugh at the notion that a rich man is a better man. in fact they know from experience on the line and in the trenches that they are not. but they feel the need for big government to protect them, but that is as far as they are able to see. they are always more concerned with the local effects of politics, which is why they vote straight ticket. they are not just “dumb” democrats as many here like to characterize them.
that being said, the new breed of marxist dem has no relation to the old. and so they leave. but the ones who wake up in my family tend to leave politics when they do, they don’t become republicans because they sense they are two-faced and view all republicans as stupid.
come to think of it, that is why it is so laughable that the GOP-e thinks its going to rake in dems for opening wide the borders. the’re not going to get old dems, the’re going to drive them further away with this pandering. i guess they are making a play for the marxists, the la raza dems. either that or they really believe their holier than thou propaganda about bring the invisible mass of illegals into the sunlight. God help us.

Taxes were in place, long before the 16th ammendment. That supposed Wilson crap, was a formalization.
uh. look i’m no fan wilson or dems in general, but you might want to check out FDR’s famous older relation and his political career, teddy. he was an, let’s say, ambitious progressive republican that founded the bull moose party out of spite (that before wilson). you might even say he paved the way for wilson and the socialists. you might want to read the bull moose party platform before condemn everything democrat. the republican establishment was “progressive” before the dems were.
i also note that a “fredrick douglas” republican (a man who i consider an American hero) would have little or nothing in common with a teddy roosevelt republican. i like how this man identified with the republican party of Lincoln and not the present republican party.
