Russia's Birth Rate Up 30% Since 2007
The Moscow Times ^ | 20 June 2013

The birth rate in Russia grew 30 percent since 2007, the Minister of Labor and Social Protection Maxim Topilin said on Wednesday.

In his interview with the Ekho Moskvy radio station, the minister attributed the trend in part to the introduction of the so-called "maternity capital" on January 1, 2007.

"During this period, the birth rate increased by 30 percent," Topilin said without giving the exact figures. Growth was attributed "to the introduction of the maternity capital, among other things."

In a bid to encourage families to have more than one child, all women who gave birth to their second child after January 1, 2007 are eligible for a government-issued benefit of almost 409,000 rubles (about $12,600).

The benefit is not paid in cash, but parents can spend the money to improve their housing conditions, pay for their children's education or put the money towards a pension.

If this is true, it’s a huge story. Whether it’s true, I can;t say, but i have some skepticism.

Seems like just a few years ago the Russian government was willing to pay good money if their citizens would have children. Mayhap this is the result of that campaign.

It’s a fair chunk of money. Most Russian women would view it as a positive on their pension contribution.

I have serious doubts. But if it is, this is the biggest news story of the year in the entire world.

Just what the world needs, more Russians. I’m only half kidding since I’m half Russian, but you can’t trust them. The ones that weren’t wiped out during Stalin’s forced collectivism are the ones most easily controlled by the state. Some of the others survived, but likely fled somewhere else since.

We have the same program in the US, but it is targeted to increase the birthrate of Democrats, it’s called Wellfare.

Russia is experiencing a "dead cat" bounce in birth rates, and it won't last.

From the above chart you can easily see: The post war baby boom ages 45-65 and then the "baby bust" valley that occurred from 1965-1980 (ages 30-45)

Then look at ages 20-30, The (echo) children of the boomers are now in their prime reproductive years. This is why you are seeing a marginal uptick in birth rates. However, the "boomer echos" are not having as many children

In 15 years most females in Russia will be beyond their reproductive phase and that is when the population pyramid gets ridiculously top heavy.

He’s getting a divorce so he can marry his true love, George Bush, who looked deeply into his eyes.

You want to increase the birthrate?

Change the divorce laws so they aren't so painful to men in terms of crippling them financially and severely limiting their access to their children. Then you will see more of a willingness to marry and an increase in births.

Reign in the legacy of rampant feminism on marriage.

Yep. Russia needs to get to work the next 15 years. If not, in a half of a century, it’ll be no longer a great power, it’ll become irrelevant like Spain. Remember the Spaniards once ruled the seas.

Men in America have lost the incentive for fatherhood and being providers. They're not praised and looked up to and if the marriage fails, then men lose the most.

Men increasingly have also decided to not pursue college and professional occupations because they were the means to that end. This is also why men are shirking responsibility (slacking) because there's little reward in it. This is a theory from a book entitled Men on Strike by Helen Smith.

I just heard her interview on the Marc Levin Show and I was floored how she linked the change in the behavior to men to really the raw deal men have to look forward to in marriage and professionally.

This is the cause of decreasing birthrates.
