Madonna (Really): 'Guns Don't Kill People, People Kill People' By Tom Blumer Created 06/22/2013 - 12:15pm
There's no word on whether Elizabeth Vargas had to receive smelling salts during her interview of Madonna which appeared on "Good Morning America." But it wouldn't be a surprise if she did.
When the ABC reporter, whose interview was relayed by the network's Sabrina Parise and posted at Yahoo.com, questioned the diva's use of gun choreography in her current tour's stage show, she certainly expected a robust defense. But she probably didn't expect a trip into the land of the Second Amendment. Nonetheless, that's what happened (bolds are mine):
... (the) choreography drew criticism with the first act of her tour relying heavily on the use of guns. Despite that criticism, Madonna says she never would have left that part out of her MDNA Tour documentary.
"That would be like asking people to not have guns in action movies," she said. "I mean the thing is, guns don't kill people, people kill people. That whole first section of the show is like an action movie, and I was playing a super vixen who wanted revenge."
Madonna even gave a statement that she does not condone violence, and that her work is art and nothing more.
"But I know there was several movies that delayed release because of the shootings, for example, at Sandy Hook Elementary school," Vargas said.
"Well that's not going to change the situation," Madonna replied. "This all comes from fear and ignorance, and people not really raising their children, or not paying attention to what's going on."
So far, the "guns don't kill people, people kill people" quote is still in the video at the link. It will be interesting to see if it survives long-term. Someone who's tech-savvy ought to figure out how to save the full interview in case it gets snipped.
Madonna's PC cachet is probably more than sufficient to survive the outrage which seems likely to follow, especially because of her vocal and edgy (i.e. profane) support of President Obama's reelection.
Or so she'd better hope.
Seriously? She's worth billions and her own flesh and blood lives under a bridge? In the ER where I worked for years we had a "frequent flyer" who was a long time, serious, schizophrenic. He came from money and his father would write him a check, each day,to buy day-to-day necessities. He was always clean, well fed but never has an excess of money because it was doled out to him little by little.I'm sure Madonna (and Osama Obama) could do the same kind of thing for their kin.If they had a heart.
Isn't it enough that you impugned the state of New Jersey -- now it's Italian-Americans??
NO PIZZA FOR YOU!
;-)
Reminds me - has Obozo signed the UN Small Arms treaty yet? Or has his office been too busy trying to surrender to Atzlan.
LOL!
I worked in a situation where we had a chronic alcoholic, named “Arthur” for purposes of convenience, from a very wealthy and important family. Like most of them, Arthur was self-medicating and obviously had other problems, but NY had halted involuntarily commitments so we could never get him into a safe situation. His brother gave him lots of money and even came to see him, but Arthur would never even consent to see his brother and would not go into treatment.
Arthur could be very charming and witty and actually very dignified. He was better drunk than sober, so he was probably bipolar.
He died when he got run over after collapsing in the gutter on the Bowery. The person who ran over him probably didn’t even know it.
So there’s only so much the family can do, given the strange situation of mental health care.
>> Madonna’s PC cachet
Not familiar with it, but good on the material girl for stating the obvious truth. Hopefully, she won’t walk it back.
While I appreciate that even an addled brain like hers has freak moments of lucidity, they’re so unpredictable as to be useless. The day gun owners need the support of Madonna is the day I take up archery.
I didn’t see that coming.
Madonna is from suburb of Detroit Michigan and never lived in New Jersey.
She had the biggest grossing tour ever just last year. She’s someone that will never be a has been because of her legacy.
Madonna is definitely annoying though.
(pop) cultural ignoramus!
Welcome to the club.
Madge has been living in Engerland for the last decade or so.

I like her music and she was hot back in the day.
