SHERWOOD, Ore. Police backed off from a standoff at a Sherwood auto center Friday evening.
Officers were trying to catch a wanted man and woman when suddenly they packed up and left.
It all unfolded at the Improved Auto Center in the 14000 block of Tualatin Sherwood Road. A spokesperson with the Sherwood Police Department said it wasn't worth anyone getting hurt. He said they'll catch these two sometime down the road.
Police raced to the business around 5 p.m. after learning that Daniel Crum and Heather Amaya, who both have warrants out for their arrest, were inside.
Heavily-armed officers surrounded the business and nearby businesses had to be evacuated.
It's was believed the wanted subjects were inside, but authorities said they didn't want anyone to get hurt, so they backed off and will try another day.
This just could be page one in hostage negotiations.
Think about it ... Go ahead and give 'em the helicopter and the million and whatever ... and follow them all the way 'til they run out of gas
Drone time.
I would half-way agree if they aren’t “violent” criminals; say they shoplift and write bad checks (do they still do that?). But if they aren’t violent, then what is the risk of a firefight if they have no weapons? I suppose they might have threatened to light some of the gas/solvents/etc. on fire and create an explosion if the cops came in.
But then there goes the non-violent part.
Wanted for WHAT????
Good to see Oregon police exercising good judgment. Now is the time for negotiators, friends and family to talk the suspect out. A far different scenario from the LAPD and their “burn the mother******down” approach to things.
Crum is wanted on two felony warrants that include eluding officers on Thursday, police said. According to records, he has a long criminal history including several convictions for drug and gun-related charges that date back to 2006.
Amaya is wanted on a drug-related felony warrant, police said. According to records, she was convicted of meth possession in 2011.

Thank God... they didn’t have their dog with them...it would have been a bloodbath.../S
Uncommonly good sense, if they were warrants for non-violent offenses. The story doesn’t say. They were in an auto center, I think that means car-buying place, and their names probably sent up a flag when they were checked out for a test-drive or something. It would have made better sense to have figured this out before they evacuated the adjacent businesses and surrounded the place, but hey. At least a dog didn’t get shot.
Larger and clearer pic of the Amaya gal here
It’s a damn shame the Feds didn’t do this in Waco. 80 people would have lived.
Just posting the info for 'be on lookout for' reasons, if any Portland/Albany area freepers happen upon the article.
Now we'll find out if they're armed with Hellfire missiles.
There's still plenty of time for that.
Did KGW leave out an important piece of information on this strange story? The Sherwood Police “raced to the business around 5 p.m. after learning that Daniel Crum and Heather Amaya, who both have warrants out for their arrest, were inside.” Warrants for what? If the warrants were serious enough in nature to justify racing to the scene, why weren’t serious enough to make the collar?
If “authorities” were concerned about someone getting hurt, what did they plan on doing when the made the decision to roll on it?
Very strange story.
If the Feds had done that at Waco, it would have come out how wrong the Federal Government was. That could not be allowed.
Waco was all about showing everyone else not top step out of line. Even Iran's government references Waco when they persecute churches. They point to Waco and say, "see the USA does it, too."
I have to say the last is from an article quoting the Iranian government at least a decade ago. I doubt that I can find a source now.
You don’t have to force the issue in minutes, but you can’t back down. Sooner or later these two need to be taken out of circulation, and now is best. Someone else will now be the victim of their treachery, and who knows how many in-between.
If they’re violent to cause “anyone getting hurt” they are violent enough to be captured ASAP.
Unless the cops are talking about themselves. They must have had the word that a dog was inside.
Nice to know.
they then kicked in doors to several homes, shot some dogs, an old lady, then realized they were all wrong addresses.
