A recent Freerepublic post about lesbian moms being featured on the last episode of Disney's Good Luck Charlie has gotten me to thinking about whether there is a Christian ratings system for tv programs, movies and music. It is time for something like this. Years ago there was a religious group called the Legion of Decency which rated movies by their content regarding their portrayal of morality. Movies were much cleaner back then.
If gays, abortion lovers and other degenerates can be the guiding hand of Hollywood morality why can't Christians use their numbers to provide parents with some clear guidelines. A word from this group can warn parents away from programs that try to sneak in unhealty programming for kids. Parents can weigh in and judge what they think of various shows. Comments would be welcome also.
“Movies were much cleaner back then.”
Not entirely true. Prior to the Hays Code 1930-1968, movies were getting raunchier. Loaded with innuendo, brief flashes of nudity, and supported by scandal sheets about celebrities.
If the public tolerated it, they would do it. But what the public would tolerate was a whole lot different. And not always what you might think.
The first banned movie was in 1894! “Dorlita in the Passion Dance”.
1906 “Reenactment of the Massacre at Wounded Knee”, for being too sympathetic to Indians.
1915 “The Birth of a Nation”, banned in many places North of the Mason-Dixon. Sympathetic portrayal of the KKK.
1917 (Margaret Sanger’s) “Birth Control”.
1922 “Haxan: Witchcraft through the ages” (Torture and nudity).
1932 “Scarface” (Glorification of crime)(post Hays code).
My favorite banned film was the German movie called “Pandora’s Box” (1929), featuring a rather attractive but stone faced young woman. Censors around the US decided that she had that special something that made men immoral so banned the movie. Kind of Islamic logic.
The Hays Code didn’t really go into effect ill 1934. Ernst Lubtisch’ 1932 classic ‘Trouble In Paradise’ was withdrawn a couple years after release and could not be released in its original form till the 1960s. This was merely for innuendo and double entendres.

I saw that a few years ago in a theater. It was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen, although being a serious-minded documentary, the humor was unintentional. Through the entire film, the audience roared with laughter. I think a bad translation of the subtitles added to the humor.
I'd be far more concerned about the apostasized "Christian" left subverting the system once it was established. They love to keep the Christian title while corrupting the substance of what it means to truly be Christian.
Yikes. The main reason we have them in private school is to avoid homosexual teachings at public school. To think they might get it from Disney.
“I’d be far more concerned”
You make an excellent point. But perhaps that is part of the “apostasy”. There are so many phonies out there. Hurry up Jesus.
Disney has been in the gutter for quite a while. I mark it to when they replaced shows like Lizzy McGuire with her raunchy “twin,” Miley Cyrus. That was back in the mid-2000s.
Wow thanks for all the great websites. I wrote them down and I will be introducing them on Freerepublic from time to time. We cannot talk about this enough.
Has anyone used this as a topic of discussion on facebook? The websites mentioned here would be great resources for parents and grandparents.
Has anyone thought of starting a entertainment source guide on facebook? Bet you would get a lot of hits.
Wish I could x out those commercials as well.
I remember my father wouldn’t go to see any movie. His reasoning was... even if you pay to see a good one, the movie company would just use the money to make a bad one the next time. He was pretty particular who he would “do business with”.
What was the name of that executive that took over Disney when he died? I used to know his name but I can’t remember it now but I know that it started with an E.
Disney’s brother took over when Walt died.
Did he also not read books or listen to music based on those criteria?
Well... he read the bible... and he listened to The Gaithers.... I dunno.
The point being that it makes as much sense. Publishing and Record companies put out all sorts of stuff. Especially fiction houses.
The Gaithers aren’t fiction.... they’re real.....
I meant publishing houses in general.
