Yet another company has dropped Paula Deen in the wake of the Food Network giving her the boot and QVC apparently thinking about doing the same. Smithfield, a major pork company (that was recently purchased by a Chinese company), says it will no longer partner with Deen for her line of "Paula Deen Collection" hams in the wake of her n-word controversy, TMZ reports. "Smithfield is determined to be an ethical food industry leader and it is important that our values and those of our spokespeople are properly aligned," reads a statement from the company. As such, "we are terminating our partnership with Paula Deen." (Hilariously, it was a Smithfield ham Deen was once hit in the face with.)
Meanwhile, the racism flap grows: A black man who used to work with Deen and her brother says Paula often used him and other workers from her brother's restaurant to staff parties at her mansion, but rarely paid them. "She just gave us beer and alcohol for working all those days," he tells Radar. In one case, he says, he didn't want to work a party "but they threatened our jobs and put it on the line." He claims he and a few other black men were forbidden from talking to the guests. It seems the Paula Deen Apology Tour is about to begin: She's appearing on Today Wednesday, after she canceled her originally scheduled appearance last Friday, Us reports. But in more bad news for Deen, the publisher of her upcoming cookbook tells People it is "monitoring the situation closely," and Sears says it is "exploring next steps" with regard to her line of products.

This should not be a big deal... political correctness went amuck some time ago... the only persons who aren’t protected against attack are the conservatives and Christians. Too much picky picky and not enough common sense. She shouldn’t have used those words, but that goes for way too many people who use those and other words I find offensive. Clean out your own mouth before you strike out against others.
I’m really weary of grownups who can’t stand this or that.... really picky stuff... and allow the important things to just go. There’s too much that needs to be fixed today, than to waste time on Paula Deen and what she said 20 some years ago. Our country is going to hell in a handbasket, and the news of the day is what someone said long time ago that was offensive?
Deen maybe should think twice about supporting her rat friends.....they turn on you and attack you in an instant!
I've seen that all my life, it is amazing that bosses and rich people do that sort of thing, but they definitely do it, and for many jobs with such lousy bosses, either you are in, or you are out, being the owner, the big cheese is like a personal extension of their ego and working for them is based on how you fit into their little ego trip, it isn't just do your 8 and go your own way.

Paula Deen embarassed Moochelle and “they’ve” been gunning for her ever since. They’re shutting down a multi-million dollar “business” and lots of companies are giving up lots of profit. This is all to show the world “You do not mess with the obamas”.
I once worked for a company where the president was that way. He was constantly making the sales manager do stuff for him on the weekends. One day the sales manager told him to stick it.
Another guy who was the company’s first employee and a dear friend of the owner, told the president that he wasn’t working another minute for the s.o.b. but he would still draw his paycheck, still drive a company car and still have an expense account. The s.o.b. couldn’t do a thing about it. But that wasn’t good for me. That employee was my boss and two weeks after he “quit” me and 4 other guys he’d hired were fired.

Where you really see it is in small owner operated businesses, where the company is run like an extension of the bosses family/slave farm.
The ones where the boss says he’s having a BBQ/roofing party at one of his rentals on the weekend and expects his people to show up to be friendly, or maybe you can come in on Saturday and wash your truck on your own time.

I experienced this first hand. Owner first insisted I attend company parties for clients. First time I did I put on a nice suit and tie only to have the SOB tell me that I would be bar tending for the party. He pulled that stunt again but soon after I always ‘ had plans - sorry, can’t attend ‘
