WASHINGTON (AP) — Taking climate change efforts into his own hands, President Barack Obama is proposing sweeping steps to limit heat-trapping pollution from coal-fired power plants and to boost renewable energy production on federal property.

Obama, in a speech Tuesday at Georgetown University, was to announce he's issuing a presidential memorandum to launch the first-ever federal regulations on carbon dioxide emitted by existing power plants, moving to curb the gases blamed for global warming despite adamant opposition from Republicans and some energy producers.

The question is will the congress - screw them, the people - continue to allow this obviously inept and incompetent man the leeway to do whatever the hell he wants with the greatest nation on the face of the planet?

Or as a caller to a talk show yesterday said, if these people (illegals) are so vital to the economy of America, return them to their homelands and have them strengthen the economy of their various countries.

I fear we are entering a period of extreme danger.

L'affaire Snowden has done severe damage to Barry's relationship with his beloved base. Ergo he now feels under pressure to start sucking-up to them and catering to even their most extreme, lunatic wishes in order to get back into their good graces.

Buckle up, people. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

All coal fired plants should shutdown immediately from a at least a week for a review to study their degree compliance and to see who blinks first. Nothing reveals a bad law (regulation) like it’s full enforcement.

For instance, in this case, is it so far beyond imagination for someone to ask: "Hmm...This is likely to really hurt our economy. I wonder how much CO2 is being produced by these American power plants as a percentage of CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere?"

Hint: the answer contains many leading "0"s.

The answer will be "because it's the right thing to do, right as rain, like snipping the necks of fetuses."

One...Ted Cruz.

He fights on but can’t do it all alone and get things done.

I feel his frustration also!

Before all the caterwauling begins, if the speech is not meaningless, it can be made meaningless if we all simply hang together rather than hang separately.

Solution: All coal-fired plants stand together and state the following: Global warming is a fraud, and any executive order attempting to curtail our enterprise due to such fraud, and we will shut down the plant entirely (no energy output) until such orders are lifted.

(Wanna bet how fast Congress overturns those executive orders? They would quickly become un-enforceable.)

Now, some of you are already saying, “That’s insane. No plant would do that”, or “0bama won’t care”. It’s not about him. It’s about saving the country. And unless the owners want their business nationalized, *WE* should convince them to stand up against this, if they are not convinced themselves.

People, we gotta get past the negative, ‘woe-is-us’ thinking I am seeing too much of here on FR.

Any of them run by Francisco d'Anconia or Ken Danagger?

Agreed. It isn’t going to be easy for the next three years. What I find interesting is the similarity among Private Bradley Mann, Snowden, Assange and Obama in their tendency to believe they have all wisdom as to what is or is not right in our society. Time was, during our twenties, and at latest by the thirties, we learned we were pretty stupid when it came to complex societal issues. We learned to seek wisdom outside ourselves.

These days, between the “educrat’s” values clarification program and the demise of traditional sources of wisdom like elders, church leaders and politicians who were actually statesmen, every twenty-something believes he or she is as wise as Socrates or Confucius. And clearly Obama has never grown out of his own twenties. Hence, why need to listen to Congress or other fonts of knowledge? They are now just demonized as selfish interest groups, partly because a lot of those groups have corrupted themselves by acting the part. And since technology has placed a lot of power into the hands of these callow youth, we are indeed in a lot of trouble.

Boy, is THAT observation spot-on!

Obama is nothing if not a child of the 70’s. I remember that time, and absolutely EVERYBODY between the ages of 18 and 25 thought they had the answers to all the world’s problems.

Problem with Barry is he’s over 50 and he STILL BELIEVES THAT! This utter lack of accumulated wisdom in one of my contemporaries is truly shocking.
