I believe your microwave oven is a Faraday cage. That might work also.

Microwaves work particularly well.

Doesnt sleep mode inhibit all phone signal communications?
That was the whole purpose.

I keep mine (iphone 5) in sleep much of the day when I wont use it.

If it cant transmit or receive it cant be remotely turned on.

In case people don’t know, the reason this was done is because, even if your phone is off, someone tapping into your phone can listen in on whatever is going on in the room through the microphone. So, essentially, we are all carrying bugs on us most of the time.

“What you want to do is block the radio signals which could be used to transmit voice data, and block the audio altogether,”

Clever!

Tinfoil/metal case would block the radio waves form entering and exiting. The microphone can pick up signals but the tinfoil will stop the transmissions of pirated audio.

So how do I stop my onstar form spying on me?

So, given a particular cell number, how do I log on and listen in?

A cookie tin would work well, or tin foil for that matter. BTW, they sell wallets that are made out of aluminum which keep your RFDI credit cards secure...

I’m waiting for people to put the pieces together

1. ALL your phones is always active
2. your phones are monitored and recorded

understanding HOW #2 works would be key to the bigger picture. there isn’t some smokey room with g-men listening to your every word. no. that’s very 1950s

today, computers analyze your speech converting it to text. that text is then matched against a phrase db to determine the ‘value’ under dozens of categories. if the conversation exceeds a threshold in any category, it is routed to the appropriate dept

now add the fact that ALL available mics are monitored in this way...

your kitchen table conversation at dinner is being recorded and analyzed by those millions of computers

just the facts ma’am

I put my phone in the microwave oven and the refrigerator and was still able to call it.

I recommend trying all the different suggestions proposed and letting us know what is effective.

Taking out the battery was effective.

I would surmise that most of the shielding techniques would be effective in blocking the all encompassing dragnet low level recorded surveillance. However, if the NSA wanted to do targeted real time surveillance, I’d imagine they could defeat many of these strategies.

Refrigerators won’t make good Faraday cages. The door isn’t connected to the box via metal, that rubber gasket is great for keeping the cold inside, but for radio signals it’s an opening.

A cell phone can’t transmit sound that it can’t pick up. A refrigerator works as well as anything. Plus, when the fridge is running the only thing the cell phone will pick up is a hum.

Will a refrigerator stop the NSA from going through my Windows 7 backdoor and planting kiddie porn, should I become a major inconvenience to the regime?
