The rumors of the demise of Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubios presidential prospects in Iowa as a result of his role in crafting immigration reform are somewhat exaggerated, said Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley on Thursday.
Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King, a fierce opponent of immigration reform, has said that Rubio is toast in the Iowa caucuses, should he run for president in 2016. A number of Iowa conservatives expressed similar opinions to the Washington Examiners Byron York last month.
But Grassley said that in 2013, it was too early to make such predictions.
Its pretty hard for me to tell you three years out, he said, speaking to the press just 40 minutes before the Senate was set to vote on the comprehensive immigration reform bill crafted by the bipartisan Gang of Eight, a group of which Rubio is a part. It may influence some people right now, but right now is not 2016.

No one who voted “yes” will be on my list.
And I mean no one.
I’m not sure I’m GOP anymore, anyway. I think they have lost the plot.
Old Man, its past time you wnet BACK on your meds and retired after generations of sucking off the public teat.
What a clueless idiot. Typical of the entitled noveau aristocracy whi fills our elected offices in Washington DC
Depends on who controls the GOP. Right now, that is NOT conservatives. Rubio is be just fine with the GOP leadership. After all, they support amnesty, too.
The question for them is “Can we scare Conservatives into voting for Rubio by pointing out how much worse the Democrat candidate (Hillary!?)is?” It usually works.
I like Grassley but Rubio has slit his wrists and is bleeding out politically. It will be a miracle if he even gets another Senate term.
That is true, but he will need to run against Hillary in the Rat primaries to get nominated..and that will be a tough fight for him.
Us true RWB Elephants have long long memories.
Rubio burned his bridges with tea party conservatives. Any presidential campaign by him is DOA!
Exactly - 2016 will be a re-run from ‘08 & ‘12, with many taking their vote and going home. We’re hosed...
Yup Mama Bear has her sights on him. He’s toast. I could not help but notice that after Mama Bear mentioned holding him accountable he started worrying. Well he should be worried, Mama Bear does not forget. Kelly Ayotte needs to be worried too.
You bloody well wait, Chuck.
His butt is grassley and we’re the lawnmowers. Same for any other quisling rinos: mulch.
I predict Rubio will either make a run for the Presidency in 2016 or will change his party affiliation to Democrat a la Charlie Crist.
Both of these scenarios would explain why Rubio voted the way he did. He thinks if he runs for President, he’ll have all those grateful Latinos voting for him, thus he’ll become this Hispanic Reagan if he wins. OR he’ll switch to Democrat and still win Florida due to the stupidity of Floridians (I am one, so don’t give me shit) and the fact that many of the illegals here will be Democrat supporters when they’re legalized.
He’s probably right. Lots of us would “never” vote for mccain or Romney. But we did. Personally, I will vote third party or stay home. Actually I’ll vote SECOND party since we only have one.
Yes it does. Not so much that he tried to do something but that he became Schumer’s butt boy in the process.
Charles Grassley: Rubios work on immigration does not destroy his 2016 prospectsIf Rubio intends to make a serious run for president he will have a hell of a fight to beat Hillary in the democrat primary elections.
But after his immigration debacle and eager submission to the Liberal Dark Side that is the only possible route open to him.
He is probably right....Rinos will run one well seasoned hack and conservatives will run 50 punching bags.....BINGO... rino wins.
Mama Bear has endorsed several who turned out to be anything but conservative.
Mama Bear has some ‘splainin’ to do, herself.
One thing could save him. If his negotiations do indeed create a situation where invaders go home, the border and residence issues are brought under control, and jobs go to US citizens, he would be proven correct.
Yep, it did not take him long to run to the Senate floor and cry about his “trials” after Mama Grizzly put him on notice the other day.
