Wise choice. Ecuador was a poor choice IMO.

It must be a rational choice. Neither Bolivia nor Venezuela are able to guarantee him safety in a long run. Cuba and Russia are a different story but Cuba can’t offer desired quality of living. Bad thing is in other news Putin said he don’t like to see a useless traitor there.

I wonder what his view is on gay rights: for marriage adoption.

I would expect him to be liberal on social issues coming from here (Maryland).

He must be seeking asylum away from the gays by emigrating to Putin’s Russia.

Four threads down from this one Putin says “Snowden not welcome in Russia.”

a Wikileaks activist who is traveling with Snowden handed his application to a Russian consulate.

Strange statement. If they're travelling together and Snowden is in Moscow, then the activist must be in Moscow as well.

Now which country in the world has a consulate on its own soil? None, to my knowledge.

Six years ago Snowden was working in a CIA station in Geneva, Switzerland as a technical specialist. Snowden said it was in Switzerland that he became disillusioned after learning about tactics the CIA used to recruit agents. It could be Snowden came in contact with Russian diplomatic or intelligence operatives and was persuaded to work for the Russians.

Russian intelligence may have suggested he secure a job with USIS, the NSA contractor, for the purpose of collecting anything that might be useful. Snowden made his revelation about U.S. hacking of Chinese secrets just days before Obama was to meet with the Chinese head of state. At that meeting Obama was supposed to bring up the issue of Chinese hacking.

So if Snowden has been working for the Russians for six years they get a load of NSA secrets, they damage the NSA surveillance program, plus they get to embarrass the U.S. and Obama with an international scandal.
