TWA 800 an accident, say investigators.
Fox News/ AP ^ | 7/02/2013 | AP

Current and former federal officials who played key roles in the investigation of one of the nation's worst aviation disasters said Tuesday they stand by their conclusion that the explosion of TWA flight 800 was caused by overheated fuel tank vapors, and not a bomb or missile.

The officials spoke to reporters at a briefing on the National Transportation Safety Board's four-year investigation following the explosion and crash of the Boeing 747 off Long Island, N.Y., on July 17, 1996, killing all 230 people on board. The board took the usual step of organizing the briefing on an investigation that has been closed for years. That's in response to a new documentary film set to air this month on the 17th anniversary of the tragedy. The film says new evidence points to the often-discounted theory that a missile strike may have downed the jumbo jet.

“It’s why I haven’t flown commercial since 1996. If I can’t drive there (I also CCW), I’m not going.”

Well, I forget the exact statistic, but I think you are about seven times more likely to die in a car crash.
My last three flights were on Qatar, a Muzie airline.
They are not likely to kill their own.
By the way, Qatar, along with a few other muzie airlines, rank in the top five airlines of the world.
American carriers do not even make it in the “also ran” category....sad.

I’d like to see what they have on this. Probably, gigaflops of data.

All these eye witness accounts were lies. All lies.

Statistically, it IS much safer to fly than drive; I agree. But I don’t like not being in control of what I’m doing/riding in. Just me.

Lots of articles & numbers here to affirm what you said:

It's a "Who's in charge" question combined with the fact that an individual either makes it or not.

Zero or One; there's no percentage on a given trip.

Are the investigators suggesting there was any chance at all they were going to come out and say oh we lied back then? If not then there was no purpose for this briefing.

More federal lies. Our government has proved itself totally and completely untrustworthy.

There is a youtube video of a time lapse look at the entire world. You can see parts of the planet go from darkness to daylight.

It shows, as a moving yellow dot, the flight of every logged flight in the world. You can see the sparse traffic as the sun sets and the traffic pick up as the sun rises. You can see the “highways in the sky” from california and Seattle to hawaii and many others. But the continents become almost solid yellow in daylight.

The amount of traffic is staggering. This happens every single day. Yet how many commercial airliner crashes have there been in the last 20 years?

I’ve been in severe turbulence and say to my fellow passengers, “this is the part of the ride you should have to pay extra for”. It’s a blast.

I was living in the NYC area and the local media were all over this story moments after it happened.

The number of eyewitnesses cannot be discounted so easily. There is also a military pilot who has seen missiles in combat, who was flying that night and testified he saw a missile.

The amount of evidence that is discounted “out of hand” is troublesome.

Being a Freeper when TWA 800 happened, I remember the first speculation was that a Naval exercise was going on at the time of the TWA 800 incident, which included a surface to air missile test firing, possibly from a submarine.

This new "documentary" coming out apparently comes to the same conclusion.

Did Navy Sub hit TWA 800?

I agree with you both. I was saying for years this since that line first came out.

* None were grounded.

* No history of it ever happening previous

* Never happened since.

* Although there have been wiring/electronic upgrades, none related to that incident.

Gee if the center fuel tank was the problem why did it take the FAA two years to issue an Airworthiness Directive?? Seems that the FAA would want to prevent any other 'accidents'!

I saw a vapor trail, streaking across the sky to my left. And then an ordinance explosion, followed in about two to three seconds, by a second ordinance explosion, followed in probably another two or three seconds, a little bit further to the left likely lower, two ordinance explosions, ta da, and then the fireball.

When a democRAT is in the WH, the blatant lies spewed from the government are simply astonishing.

Probably something like “sorry, we’s jus listnin. We don’t actually DO anything”.

Just ask those runners in Boston.

Or the folks who got raped by ENRON while “somebody” was listening to the traders on the ENRON floor...

etc etc.

Like the rest of the bureaucratic tribes in “government” today — the only thing that one can be seen to serve is, itself.

We were watching the news the night it happened, and heard from multiple eyewitnesses that night. I call bullshit on this. These people are covering their butts. They really have no choice.

Do you remember the interview with the fishing boat rental operator at the marina?

This typo is in the original. I’m not always sure these happen by accident. Of course it is an “unusual” step.

The board took the usual step of organizing the briefing on an investigation that has been closed for years. That’s in response to a new documentary film set to air this month on the 17th anniversary of the tragedy.
