They’ve already locked-down parts of Boston, DC, NYC, and LA to some type of martial law (drills and random searches, “papers please,” no passing until you are searched, etc.). So, they’ve got the coasts.
We within 100 miles of the border are impeded and interrogated, dare we go sightseeing or travel for business. I was stopped at four checkpoints one day in TX/NM, and missed reaching my next destination on time (the monument where I was headed closed at 5 pm). Dogs sniffing your vehicle, all privacy invaded, intrusive questions to try to trick you — all in the primary line.
Not sure about anyone else, but for me I have had no problems dealing with Police Officers. I do have a problem dealing with Law Enforcement Officers. That you cannot tell the difference is the real problem in our society.

Of course those sorts of checkpoints are not right culturally, and unconstitutional to boot.
Immigration is easy to fix if we want to fix it. No checkpoints required.
No healtcare unless you can pay cash. No housing without showing and verifying your green card. No access to schools without showing and verifying a green card. Everything else people talk about in regards to illegal immigrants is just stupid.
I am trying to start a fight. Why not. This stop happened on Independence day, so I’m in the mood.

The only checkpoint I would approve of is if a dangerous criminal had hijacked a car or taken a driver hostage or an amber alert situation. And then the only thing the cops are allowed to do is look to see who is in the car.

Actually more extensive operations than those you describe have been done in some smaller Southern cities. In Jackson, Mississippi and Helena, Arkansas police at the direction of the mayor closed off certain parts of both cities allowing traffic to enter only on a few arterial streets. At the same time public housing developments were closed to all traffic except through one entrance/exit gate. Police controlled traffic at both types of entrances. In the housing developments ID was required to enter or leave. Those who either had no ID or who did not live in the projects could be detained by police. Police on both areas routinely stopped cars and demanded ID. Was this done by racist white cops back in the 60’s? No, both programs were carried out by black mayors with black police chiefs and heavily black police departments. .It was done in attempts to control drug trafficking and gang violence. Interestingly in Jackson the only real dissent came from a senior patrol commander who was white and had started with the department back at the end of the civil rights struggle. He was told to shut up and carry out his orders or retire.
FreeRepublic has changed a bit. It has changed because of a relentless posting of articles like this. So far nobody has supported this. Five years ago? Maybe not.

We don't have checkpoints here in Texas...thank goodness, but I believe they'll be coming. We have mandatory blood draws if someone refuses a breath analyzer.
The issue is, they'll hold you down and take it regardless of the 5th amendment...no choice.
Two instances lately of Tx DPS pulling over individuals and trumped up “I smell the odor of marijuana” accusation then leading to a search of their vehicle and roadside cavity searches....no dope was found.
So, wonder what happens if a diabetic is pulled over and they cannot answer the officers questions because of a hyper or hypoglycemic reaction?
Do they plant his/her face into the cement, handcuff them and forcefully draw their blood?

I didn’t hear about that, but I have heard about some horrible police state stuff and “drills” in TN and Arkansas... I’m so sad when I hear about it happening in the South. Today’s movies/entertainment/tv are helping acclimate/brainwash people to it too.

All people had to do when TSA started cooking people with cancer blasts and molesting was all sit down in line at once. Even at just one terminal in one airport. Yes, they might have been pepper sprayed (depending on local sheriffs/LE), but a little civil disobedience might have stopped the speed-racing police state. But no...
