The Fairfax City council voted Tuesday night to create a new term in its zoning law, medical care facility, delete the term clinic from the current definition of a doctors office, and require all medical care facilities to obtain a special use permit at a cost of $4,800, along with a detailed approval process and a final vote by the city council. Pro-choice activists said the move was aimed at keeping abortion clinics out of Fairfax City, including an existing clinic in the city which was trying to relocate to meet Virginias new hospital-style zoning standards for abortion clinics.
Clinics in Fairfax City currently are classified in the same part of the zoning law with doctors and dentists offices, able to operate without special use permits or city council approval. Councilman Steven Stombres, whose full-time job is the chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, said decisions on whether medical facilities should be allowed to operate in the city shouldnt be left to city staff, as they were with standard medical offices. I ran because I want to be the one that makes those decisions, Stombres said. I know people feel theres another agenda here. Its not my agenda.
City officials said they wanted to create clarity and predictability when categorizing the various medical uses of facilities in Fairfax. Clinics are regulated as a type of office and are permitted by-right in all commercial districts, zoning administrator Michelle Coleman wrote. In the new ordinance, clinics were removed from the definition of an office use and now fall within the medical care facility definition. That change was made because of similarity in land use characteristics between clinics and the other uses within the new category.

Imagine a facility that specializes in invasive out-patient surgery objecting to being required to have the same facility standards as any other similar facility that surgically treats patients.
The gall of them to insist on sanitary, sterilization, and health and welfare conditions!
After all, they’re just killing babies there, it’s not like they’re trying to deliver them.
The pro-aborts want everyone to think that abortion is just routine medical care. Yet they scream bloody murder at the prospect of regulating abortion mills as if they were medical facilities.
Go figure.
In the 1990s I would ask why some folks supported legal abortions? They would often sound like broken records and say, “to prevent back-alley abortions.” Now some states suggest that these abortion clinics meet high-quality medical standards and the pro-abortion crowd complains.
The logic of abortionists is always geared toward the end result - snuff out a life.
They will change their positions on ANYTHING if supports them being able to complete that mission - ANYTHING. And, when all else fails, they’ll resort to that tried and true motto “don’t touch my uterus!”
In reality, it is a national organized campaign for some like PP to get money, as simple as that. For some, politicians it is a means to a lock on a certain group of voters. Lastly, for the rest,it is an ideological defect likely borne out of some sort of psychosis.
Wow!
Very big news because Fairfax City full of libtards...
Would love to have seen that go down.
What gets me about the protests in Austin is that all of the measures being voted on are expressly for the safety of the mother. They are giving the impression that conservatives are attempting to corner the wire hanger market.
