SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 17, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Days after the United States Supreme Court issued two decisions that delivered a significant blow to traditional marriage, a priest at the University of San Francisco’s St. Ignatius Catholic Church took the pulpit where he read a letter in support of same-sex “marriage” during his homily.

The letter “Why am I in the parade?” was penned by Jesuit Fr. John Whitney, pastor of St. Joseph’s Church in Seattle, WA, for his parish’s bulletin. It explains Fr. Whitney’s reasons for participating in the nation’s largest demonstration in support of homosexual activity, the San Francisco Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Celebration. Fr. Gregory Bonfiglio

According to California Catholic Daily, the reading of the letter by Fr. Gregory Bonfiglio rendered the faithful of St. Ignatius at the June 30th Sunday Mass silent, with one parishioner leaving the sanctuary in tears saying, “It’s not his Church! It’s the Catholic Church! I should be able to just go to church! I want to go to a Catholic church!”

Confront him. Go to the Bishop. If the Bishop spouts unCatholic views—go to the Cardinal. They have a hierarchy for a Reason. The CC has been allowed to be so corrupt because of its parishioners (why Catholics elected zero) because the Good are silent in the face of evil.

We need to take back the Catholic Church-—In the days of Abp. Fulton Sheen they were the beacon of Truth and condemned Marxism adamantly-—and all sin. If you read Bella Dodd’s book—you will understand the infiltration from the homosexual Marxists-—to destroy the CC from within.....it was too strong to attack from the outside-—just like the infiltration of our country.

Fr. Oko’s recent report on “Homoheresy” should also be read and understood by all Catholics. This Satanic infusion into the Vatican has to be wiped out.

Marxism infiltrates and takes over——we have to take back the Church—and the Catholic Canon is still about Truth/Justice.

Corrupt “priests” have always existed since Judas....it is human nature.

And the lack of Godly manhood! I would have stopped a pastor in his tracks if he would have said anything like that in Church. Withouht a seconds hesitation! To not say anything is to give silent consent!

Any possibility of getting a good priest from Latin America?

When I lived in Atlanta, I knew a good priest from Ireland (in Atlanta) as well as a good priest from Columbia.

Getting priests from other countries is happening across the country.

I don't know if the Philippines has a surplus of priests.

Getting a Spanish speaking priest in that part of the country may be a plus. The English of such priests may be questionable.

But would one rather have a good priest with questionable English or a bad priest with good English?

There are problems with bringing priests in - work visas, and perhaps a cost factor.

Your brother may know this better than anyone.

Helping to serve the Hispanic population may be a greater need -- without knowing the exact situations...

A Spanish-speaking priest could always say Latin masses, though, and I think there are those from Latin America who like the Latin Rite.

This guy is obviously satanic and is not a representation of what the Roman Catholic Church teaches about marriage. If he was not a priest and just a rank and file Catholic who was openly supporting Gay “marriage” he would be in a state of self separation from the Church (unless he was a Democrat politician - but that is a matter for another post.)As a priest however he will be disciplined. As to anyone saying a priest in a particular parish said this and that caused him/her to leave the Church, I’m sorry to say that person apparently never understood the teachings of the Church to begin with.
I have always taught my sons that we are all moving toward God and if the person in front of you falls or walks off the “road” well that’s too bad for him/her even if he’s the Pope himself. Only one set of feet will be standing on your personal “spot” come Judgment Day and saying “Well I walked away because I got angry at what a priest once said” won’t get you a pass.

I guess Judas Iscariot did not cause the other 11 to leave Jesus (but 10 of the 11 deserted Jesus for the cruxification).

I think the example of the priest being ex-communicated over a similar issue is how the Church should handle such priests.

Since Archbishop Cordileone was one of the organizers of Prop 8, I think he may have to calm down before taking action.

As for the priest, if he is removed from being a pastor (anywhere), he then can be ordered by the new pastor or the archdiocese to publicly apologize -- or leave the priesthood.

But I am not sure how being an order priest plays into this.

I would most likely sit there in stunned silence and see what all happens. Something like this already happened and I stayed after mass and lit into a church employee. I made my concerns known immediately after mass. I was nice, but firm. Promoting sin in church is sick. I didn’t back down and I went to another church for a number of weeks after.

I would probably do the same thing again.

He did NOT appreciate it from me, he let me know that in uncertain terms and is now no longer the priest there because the Diocese had enough.
I left because all that took too long and I needed a church were I felt “at home”....
So sue me.....

We’ve done the Latin America thing a few times.

They tend to be communists, and their Spanish does not resemble the Spanish of New Mexico, except very superficially.

It’ll work out.

If not, I’ll make my brother officiate.

I’m still the older brother, and still bigger and meaner.

This guy had served in Africa for sometime before coming to this Parish. Never found out why he came to the states but would have loved to know...
He is no longer in the Diocese as far as I know...this from the Diocese to me.

“So sue me”

It seems like an extreme reason for a civil matter.
