Will Colorado Become the New Wisconsin — Center of the Political World?
National Review ^ | July 19, 2013 8:08 AM | Jim Geraghty

Get ready for two very intense, quick fights in two state-legislative races that will carry a great deal of national weight on the gun-control issue:

A Denver judge Thursday ruled petitions submitted to oust a pair of Democratic senators from office are valid, a pivotal ruling that sets in motion Colorado’s first-ever recall election of state lawmakers.

“The petitions here substantially comply with law,” Denver District Court Judge Robert Hyatt said in his oral decision from the bench. “Recalls are a fundamental right of Colorado citizens.”

Shortly after Hyatt handed down the decision Thursday, Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper signed an executive order to set the recall election date of Senate President John Morse of Colorado Springs and Sen. Angela Giron of Pueblo for Sept. 10.

Both are the targets of recalls by constituents for their support of stricter Colorado gun laws implemented this month.

Suddenly, every gun-control supporter and Second Amendment advocate will be focusing on these two state-legislative districts, hoping to send a signal about the post-Newtown gun laws.

Colorado got California-ized over the last 40 years. Like many states, the liberal weanies took over the metro areas and overpowered the conservative suburbs and rural voters.

But things change when people start to care, as we have seen in Wisconsin.

A new resident in Colorado (or in the Senatorial district of one of these two anti-Second amendment Democrats)? Be sure to get registered to vote immediately if you have not done so yet. And make sure your pro-2nd Amendment friends, family and acquaintances are registered also.

"That was the argument that Mark Grueskin, the lawyer for Giron and Morse supporters, made at an all-day hearing Wednesday. Without that explicit language, the petitions should be invalidated, according to Grueskin.

Not so, answered Hyatt. Citing a number of cases, the judge said the term “recall” implies to any petition signer that voters also will be asked to elect a replacement for a targeted lawmaker.

To claim otherwise was a “hypertechnical” reading of state statutes, he said. The petition process of gathering voter signatures “demonstrates the popular support for the recall of an official,”

Why is the Gov not targeted in the recall? He signed the bill into law, did he not?

If I remember correctly, Colorado Springs is a fairly conservative area. Is that correct?

Overall it’s relatively conservative though the swath he represents is a bit more diverse:)

It used to be that people like Hickenlooper would quietly fade out when there would be an electoral revolt. Now the arrogance around the Rats is unbelievable, even when two of his cohort are about to go down.

My best to the FReepers in Colorado in cleaning out the pond scum in their state.

Hopefully, everyone shows up, the way they should and gets rid of these two clowns.

Then hopefully they can make life really uncomfortable for the liberal weenies that moved in, forcing them to move back to Cali and whatever other, liberal nest they left.
