ESPN will reportedly announce next week that it has hired Nate Silver to contribute to Keith Olbermann's new late-night talk show.

The numbers-crunching baseball geek gained national fame when he correctly projected the outcomes of the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. The New York Times, which reported the news on Friday, hired Silver, who brought his FiveThirtyEight franchise with him, in 2009.

I thought he burned his bridges @ ESPN. Must be working cheap.

2 libs joining the lib sports network whose breaking news is Jason Collins coming out as a poofter. This is like taking a dump in a toilet which hasn’t been flushed yet.

I'm not sure if this is a good idea.

Both are outspoken leftists, so no political contrast.

Both are narcissistic egotists, so no personality contrast.

Both are obsessive statisticians (Olbermann is probably THE authority on the statistics of walks), so no methodological contrast.

Both have baseball as their most loved sport, so no contrast in sports interests.

This could either be a boring show where they agree on everything except the smallest minutiae, or it could be a boring show where all they do is bicker over the smallest minutiae.

The ESPN mother ship is being challenged by NBCSports, FoxSports and even the Audience Network on Direc-TV. They needed something controversial to even be noticed on ESPN 2.

It really doesn’t matter. Don’t mean a thing, really. Who in the hell would watch it? I mean, really!

Wasn’t Rush supposed to be too controversial for sports television?

Does anyone actually watch Odorman? They could bring on Satan himself and it wouldn't make any difference, because no one cares.

I remember when they launched ESPN2. It was like Olbermann 24/7, always wearing that hideous faux letterman’s jacket. Ugh.

Oh great! Glad I cut the cord and now subscribe to hockeystreams.com, ballstreams.com, and lean on my trusty HD antenna for my NFL games, so I don’t have to rely on ESPN’s crappy network! :)

Yeah and in fact, I stopped listening to Rush a few years ago too. Ever since Øbama took office that's all he's talked about.
I'd listened since 1991, back when he used to be very "cutting edge" and very entertaining.
Now all he does is talk Øbama, tea and golf. The time for talk is over. Get out from behind the EIB microphone and do something.
