Rachel Jeantel Tells Radio Host Ricky Smiley She Wants To Be A Lawyer

One of the more reluctant media figures to emerge from the George Zimmerman trial was 19 year-old Rachel Jeantel, the last person to speak to unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, aside from the man who killed him.

Her contentious exchanges with defense attorney Don West sparked conversations about cultural differences, and the way many in the media reacted to them.

Jeantel’s unpleasant experience in the courtroom hasn’t scarred her too deeply, however, as she told radio host Ricky Smiley, last week, that she aspires to become an attorney.

Jeantel’s time on the witness stand was a focal point of the trial, and was characterized by an intensely antagonistic repartee with defense attorney Don West, who seemed to be trying to provoke Jeantel into reacting negatively, and to present her as a sullen proxy for absent victim Trayvon Martin.

Since the trial, she has made several media appearances, and provided insight into the dynamic between her and West.

That dynamic apparently hasn’t soured Jeantel on West’s profession, though. In an interview with Ricky Smiley last week, Jeantel said she hopes to go to college, with a little help from Smiley and radio superstar Tom Joyner:

Doubt all you want, she deserves the chance. Isn't that what made America great ages ago, the opportunity to try, a shot at something?

What have we become when we ridicule someone willing to enter the ring against such a powerful foe???

Remember Archie Bunker tweaking Lionel Jefferson about his ambition to be an electrical engineer?

“C’mon, Lionel - say it!”

“I’se gwine to be an electrical engineer!”

A 14 y/o boy in Calif just passed the SAT with a perfect 2400 score.

I don’t think she could get a 24-—so forget the zeros.

The worst problem with some black celebrity funding her tuition isn’t that he will lose all his money-—

The worst thing is that she will take up a chair (or 2) in classes where a truly deserving person COULD be sitting & bring something to society.

Hey, how about some ambition? She ought to be available for the SCOTUS with no more than a GED. Certainly would be qualified by Obama standards

Thank you! I believe this will be a life changing for Ms. Jeantel as well. Let us hope and encourage a change for the better. Jesus warned we would be judged by how we treat the least among us.

Just award her degrees and admit her to the bar now, beecause we know she won't have to work for any degrees and someone will put the fix in for the bar exam. Just do it, and save time. Who needs a high school degree?

I honestly believe she got valuable lessons in how to manipulate during her preparation for the Zimmerman trial, and she is well prepared now to do the same herself.

Some lack discernment. But FEELINS? And Jesus? Oh yeah! Let us hope they aren’t the ones handling admissions to post-graduate schools.

In reference to Affirmative Action:
When discussing Michelle Obama. A Action can get you in school. It can help you pass tests and write papers BUT it cannot help you pass the bar exam
How many people like MO do not have an active law license simply because they have repeatedly failed to pass the bar or other licensing exams. We don’t know why MO doesn’t have an active license but if you check the time between her graduation and the time the repeated test would be offered
