You, sir, have won post of the day.
Leni
Actually their true last name is “Oldenburg”.
He’d already been king for 59 years at that point. Somehow I don’t think it’s fair to gage the man for what he was like at the end of his reign.
I hadn’t made the the Lord Mountbatten connection but it certainly fits.
I think Stuart Varney was speculating during the “wait” that Louis(ie) would likely not be one of the names......so much for that.
Thanks for the heads up!

That was decades afterwards. Completely irrelevant.
George the III showed signs of the disease very early. He suffered from it at least 30 years and possibly 50 years of his reign. It was not at the end of his reign.
George (Costanza, Jason) Alexander Louis — clearly they’re Seinfeld fans.
Remember how a generation ago, Princess Diana wouldn’t name any of her children George because we all would have been reminded of Boy George?
Saint Alexander may refer to:
Pope Alexander I (died 115), saint and pope
See Epipodius and Alexander for Saint Alexander, martyred in Lyon, 178 AD
Alexander of Rome - Christian martyr
Alexander of Bergamo (died c. 303), patron saint of Bergamo; may have been a Roman soldier
Alexander of Constantinople (born between 237 and 244 - 337), bishop of Byzantium and the bishop of Constantinople
Alexander of Jerusalem (d. 251 AD), venerated as a Martyr and Saint by Eastern Orthodox Churches & Roman Catholic Church
Alexander Nevsky (1220 1263), Grand Prince of Novgorod and Vladimir
Alexander Sauli, the “Apostle of Corsica”, (1535-1592), member of an illustrious Lombard family
Alexander of Comana (died 251), bishop of Comana
Alexander of Alexandria, Patriarch of Alexandria
Alexander of Svir (1448 - 1533), Eastern Orthodox saint, monk and hegumen of Russian Orthodox Church
One of the seven sons of Felicitas of Rome (101165)
Sisinnius, Martyrius and Alexander (died 405), martyrs
Saint Alexander, a companion of St. Victor of Marseilles (died 290)
They wanted a George after Lizzie’s dad, I think. The only names off-limits are the pre-Norman king names, Stephen, and maybe John.
No, but he was his mentor from childhood into adulthood, and the Prince of Wales was closer to him than anyone except his own parents. Mountbatten's mother and daughter were two of the Prince's Godmothers however.
The Prince of Wales had eight Godparents (Princes get more because it is considered especially important given their role that they have people who will guide them to a Godly life). They were His Majesty King George VI of the United Kingdom, His Majesty King Haakon VII of Norway (the Norwegian Royal Family is the most closely related to the British Royal Family - King Harald V of Norway is currently about 68th in line to the British throne), Her Majesty Queen Mary, Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, His Royal Highness Prince George of Greece and Denmark, The Most Honourable The Dowager Marchioness of Milford Haven (this is Mountbatten's mother), Lady Brabourne (later The Countess Mountbatten of Burma - Mountbatten's daughter) and The Honourable David Bowes-Lyon (later Sir David Bowes-Lyon KCVO).
Not unless Obozo changes his name............
Again, George III was actually the best of the Hanoverians, (and far better than George IV).
He gets bad press because of the irrational hatred lobbed at him by Yankees who needed to demonize him to achieve their ends.
Prince Philip’s favorite uncle and Prince Charles’s favorite great-uncle, I believe. More likely than Louis XIV or “Louie, Louie” of the song.
