Obama Blames Five Years of a Bad Economy on "Phony Scandals" and "Distractions

President Obama did his best to shift his administration's focus to the economy today during a speech at Illinois' Knox College by blaming the anemic economy on Republicans and "phony scandals."

As predicted, Obama gave America the same speech he's been giving for five years, saying the country needs more infrastructure spending due to crumbling roads and bridges, that we must fight poverty, that CEOs are making too much money while the poor suffer etc. He even went so far as to tout "saving the auto industry" one week after Detroit filed for bankruptcy.  "Today, five years after the start of that Great Recession, America has fought its way back. Together, we saved the auto industry, took on a broken health care system, and invested in new American technologies to reverse our addiction to foreign oil and double wind and solar power," Obama said. "Together, we put in place tough new rules on big banks, and protections that cracked down on the worst practices of mortgage lenders and credit card companies.  We changed a tax code too skewed in favor of the wealthiest at the expense of working families, locking in tax cuts for 98% of Americans, and asking those at the top to pay a little more."

While Obama claims America is "back," 50 million people are on food stamps and 23 million people are unemployed. The healthcare system is starting to collapse as doctors leave their practices and gas is on average $3.68 per gallon. It isn't just the rich Obama has asked to "pay a little more." In January, he raised taxes on everyone. And finally, big banks are getting bigger

After claiming the country was on the right track economically, Obama proceeded to blame Republicans for "distractions" and "phony" scandals coming out of Washington.

"With an endless parade of distractions, political posturing and phony scandals, Washington has taken its eye off the ball.  And I am here to say this needs to stop.  Short-term thinking and stale debates are not what this moment requires.  Our focus must be on the basic economic issues that the matter most to you – the people we represent," Obama said.

Funny, I'm not sure the IRS targeting American citizens (with the help of one of Obama's political appointees) for political purposes or four dead Americans killed in Benghazi count as "phony" but hey, "what difference, at this point, does it make?" And speaking of distractions, apparently taking the time to personally call pro-abortion Wendy Davis, Sandra Fluke and the first openly gay NBA player Jason Collins while opining on local crime cases, playing golf and going on numerous vacations doesn't count when it comes to deflecting attention away from anything but the disastrous and stagnant economy.

I'll leave you with this from liberal Washigton Post blogger Ezra Klein:

All that POS can do is blame others. The Limbaugh therom is proven again. No one connects him to the disaster HIS policies are creating.

Like an old rock and roll act trudging the same old songs for the over sixty set, he’s stuck on doing his version of “Firebird” or “Stairway to Heaven”.

I think you meant, "Free Bird".

Yeah, I'm over 60.

It’s the Limbaugh Theorem:

RUSH: Basically I evolved the Limbaugh Theorem to explain something that didn’t make any sense to me. I saw polls which showed the American people by vast majorities supported Obama’s agenda, and yet every aspect of it they opposed. They didn’t associate him with it. It was a New York Times story. I’ll never forget it. The American people opposed the direction the country’s going, and issue by issue by issue they opposed everything Obama was doing. Every element of the Obama agenda, a majority of the people oppose it, and yet they support him by 50, 55%. I said, “How can this be?”

There’s only one answer. People do not associate Obama with his agenda, and that’s because he’s permanently campaigning. He’s running against his own agenda, by design, on purpose. He’s running against what’s happening. He makes people think that he doesn’t like what’s happening and he’s trying to fix it when in fact everything that’s happening is precisely because he wants it to and has made it happen. So here comes a story in the Wall Street Journal. It’s an opinion piece by a guy named Jason Riley. And it’s entitled, “Obama’s Poll Numbers.”

And here’s how it starts: “How is it that President Obama, despite the recent scandals, has been able to maintain an approval rating in the mid- to high-40s, or about where it’s been for the better part of three years? A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll may provide some clues. For starters, the public doesn’t seem to be blaming the president for the Benghazi terrorist attack, the IRS targeting of conservative groups or the Justice Department snooping.”

The public does not blame the president for anything that’s happening, and this guy says, how can this be? How is it that President Obama is able to remain unattached from his own policies, his own administration? The Limbaugh Theorem explains it. I’m sure Mr. Riley has not heard it. ‘Cause if he had heard me explain the Limbaugh Theorem, his poll would be understood by him.

Yeah, well, if it were George W. Bush’s “Health Care Law’s Unpopularity Reaches New Highs,” his disapproval would be 60%, because the media would be leading the charge. That’s one of the reasons why Obama’s static is the media does not lead the charge against him. But even so, people are opposed to Obama’s policies without the media helping them along. They instinctively oppose them. But his approval rating remains high.

I’m telling you, that’s because low-information voters are in these polls, and they think that what’s happening in the country has nothing to do with Obama. Because he’s out campaigning against things. He’s perpetually campaigning. He’s not seen as responsible for any of this.

I wonder if he will ever admit all the harm he has done?

No, he won't but I am sure the history books will.

I wonder how the Noble committee is feeling about all his drone strikes and NSA spying? Oh well, this too shall pass.

Today was depressing. I had several family members say for the 1st time that America is over.

I tend to agree. Four more years of this pretty much seals the fate.

Nixon was a choirboy compared to Obama. The dems went after him with a fury. I do not see that kind of zeal from our side.

Enjoy the music on the America Titanic, because it is going down.

Gawd, I thought we would at least not go down without a fight. I was so wrong.

I read this and had a flashback to “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. Zaphod Beeblebrox’s job as President was to distract from the true powers that ruled the galaxy, and he had so many scandals and stupid acts that he was thought very good at the job.
So is the President admitting he’s a distraction from the true people in power? Or hates that the scandals detract from his attempt to create a fascist state?
