TX:Houston woman in critical condition after pack of 15 dogs attack

HOUSTON -- A 52-year-old Houston woman was in critical condition after a vicious mauling by a pack of at least 15 stray dogs.

It happened around 6 a.m. on Monday near Lyons and Eastex Freeway in the Fifth Ward.

According to family members, Maria Arcos was walking to a nearby bus stop. She was on her way to start her first day on a new job as a housekeeper.

Arcos only made it about halfway.

She was under an overpass when a pack of mixed-breed strays surrounded her and brought her to the ground.

“It’s a pack mentality. That can happen when there’s an aggressive act by one and it continues,” said City of Houston Animal Control Manager Chris Glaser.

Glaser said a railroad employee saw Arcos being terrorized and dialed for help.

“With that many dogs on her, she was being drug up and down the street,” Glaser said.

Arcos was still conscious when officers arrived, but her family said the stress of the mauling caused her to have a heart attack.

“Supposedly in 48 hours, if she doesn’t get better, she’s not going to make it,” said stepson Oscar Reyes.

"That wasn't bragging, just stating a fact

"Neighbors later asked me if I had seen "that big dog roaming about". The halo over my head was blinding."

ORLY?

You mean that you are capable of even greater self-aggrandizing hyperbole?

"He yelped and took off after Mr. Ruger planted a .22 hollow-point in his chest."

Point stands. You wounded an animal and didn't kill it.

Either practice more or get a bigger gun or learn to double tap ... or something.

I did not complain that you shot the dog.

I was horrified that you had not the honor to kill it outright.

Where I live, the most -despicable- thing a ~man~ can do is leave a wounded animal to suffer.
There is literally no greater shame.

Things are apparently very different wherever *you* live.

The “she must love pETA” straw man?

Oh, please.

Spare me the stench of your desperation.

I do not get upset about people shooting animals that are attacking them and other people.

That is not “fair chase” or euthanasia. It is survival.

While we do not know all the circumstances, It could well have been prudent not to unleash more rounds in a residential neighborhood.

Animals shot in the chest with a .22 usually die in a minute or so. My father told me that a deer shot through the lungs with a .22 acted the same as a deer shot through the lungs with a 30-06. They ran a hundred yards, lay down and died.

Can you say “Pit Bull Mix?”

Sure.

I knew you could.

Now we’re going to try saying “.22 hollow point.”

Sounds really deadly, doesn’t it?

Sure.

Let me hear you say it.

Just don’t mind te halo and let the words come out.

Sure.

I knew you could.

“We live in a 70+ community 10 miles from a small town in Nevada.”

Obviously not metropolitan.

*One* good shot in the head is preferable to a body shot that may or may not kill an animal.

He laughed that it ran off “yelping”.

Last year my neighbor chased a lung-shot deer four miles to dispatch it.

He did so because the humiliation and disapprobation would have been unacceptable.

Until and unless you follow it to be *sure*, you cannot say something did not suffer -unnecessarily-.

The OP did not follow the dog to be sure it died.

That is unacceptable, if no other reason than to be sure it had indeed died, leaving it no threat to anyone else.

Lung-shot with bow and arrow, just for the sake of accuracy.

The halo over my head was blinding.

I found your picture.

There are three kinds of people who will injure an animal leaving it to die in agony and then brag about it.

1) A cowardly POS.
2) A cowardly POS.
3) A cowardly POS.

Which one are you tough guy?

You didn't enlighten Ronald Reagan with this tidbit of knowledge back in March 30, 1981?

You had until January 20, 1989 to do so.

“You didn’t enlighten Ronald Reagan with this tidbit of knowledge back in March 30, 1981? “

Reagan was hit with a ricochet from a short barrelled .22 revolver, an RG-14, as I recall. Even so, he almost died. It was a close thing. I do not know how long it took them to get to the hospital, but it was not very long.

Almost is not a certainty.

Clearly, there is also quite a bit of difference based on the size of the animal and the exact bullet trajectory.

While I have heard of several grizzley bears killed with a .22, I have only heard of one elephant that was killed with this caliber.

The point is that the POS gut shot an animal knowing it would die in agony and is proud of it.

Since you have no trouble making wild out of your ass guesses I’ll make one too.

Oatka is probably a muslim.

A chest shot is not “gut shot”.

A chest shot is not “gut shot”.

So he put some reverse English on the bullet causing it to stop in the dog's chest rather than ricocheting? Another ass pull?

It is clear you support his actions. That is all I need to know.

I support him defending his wife. He says the dog was attacking her. We only have Oatka’s word for what happened.

If he chooses to explain more that is up to him.

Are you saying that you would rather that he let the dog attack his wife?

I do not know all of the circumstances, but the rules of “fair chase” do not apply to self defense.

I'm sorry, I thought you were fluent in the English language.

Please copy and paste where I made that statement. You should start looking at my other posts where I was pissed because the gutless piece of crap was proud that he wounded an animal and wasn't man enough to finish the job.

If you can't find it you can simply apologize for doing such a juvenile job of trying to twist my words.

Your ass should be plenty chapped after pulling that straw-man out of it.

As to "fair chase" he could have taken a second shot. He should be used to doing so since he is carrying such a pussy gun. At least he could have left out the halo part because I don't think they are passed out to POS sadists.

BTW, are you a muslim too?

4) Surely not as tough as a keyboard warrior.

Sarcasm is evidently lost on you. Since you took the time to childishly dredge up a picture from your hero file, here one I found of you:

Neener, neener.

Thank you (15 stitches in leg and arm). The thing got blown all out of proportion with that idiot completely over-reacting and flying off the handle. (I suspect he is mad because he can't stay within the lines of his coloring book.)

As far as I am concerned. he can do all the foamimg-at-the-mouth ranting he wants. God, it must feel great to be SO sanctimonious.

My responses end now (expect another schoolyard outburst from him though.)
