GALESBURG, Ill. In a week when he tried to focus attention on the struggles of the middle class, President Obama said in an interview that he was worried that years of widening income inequality and the lingering effects of the financial crisis had frayed the countrys social fabric and undermined Americans belief in opportunity.
Upward mobility, Mr. Obama said in a 40-minute interview with The New York Times, was part and parcel of who we were as Americans.
And thats whats been eroding over the last 20, 30 years, well before the financial crisis, he added.
If we dont do anything, then growth will be slower than it should be. Unemployment will not go down as fast as it should. Income inequality will continue to rise, he said. Thats not a future that we should accept.
A few days after the acquittal in the Trayvon Martin case prompted him to speak about being a black man in America, Mr. Obama said the countrys struggle over race would not be eased until the political process in Washington began addressing the fear of many people that financial stability is unattainable....

Not income gap, but employment gap...
I will point this out...once we started to manufacture refrigerators, tennis shoes, socks, underwear and 500 other things overseas, then the income gap started to exist. If you drive around various southern and mid-west towns today....you see thousands of empty industrial buildings that grew out of the 1950s/1960s.
The social fabic is mostly screwed because the jobs went away and a guy at the bottom....cannot get more than a job at McDonalds or stocking shelves at some grocery.
Redistribution is of zero value. Unless we conclude our industry jobs was part of society’s answer to move up....we are mostly stuck with a gap, for years and decades.
You're rich (Congrats!), and I'm poor. (Aww, man!)
You're worth $100 million, and I'm worth $100 (just to make the math easy).
Blessed Leader Obama passes a Good and Just Law that we MUST invest the same way.
This year, our investments make 20%, in Glorious Leader's WonderEconomy.
Now, after one year, I made $20! Woo-hoo!
And you made... $20 million.
Our totals now are $120 million to $120.
The gap between us grew by just under $20 million ($19,999,980, if you are OCD), even though we invested EXACTLY THE SAME WAY.
The ONLY way our gap can EVER shrink is if
1. the economy is shrinking... which seems to be what the Left wants, since they work so hard towards that end, every single day....
Or 2. All of your gains are confiscated and given to those who didn't earn it. This, of course, discourages anyone of wealth to make gains, thereby, once again, making HUGE obstacles for economic growth... as the Left clearly wants. They do nothing that does not have this "unintended" consequence.
They’re right. I’m a white guy who works 84 hour weeks, and I want to know why I don’t get paid as much as Oprah. It’s unfair....
The gap is in Zer0’s brain. It is the Communist Gap. The Communist agents would call people like him transmission belts.
“Our totals now are $120 million to $120.”

I recall a theory that I remember from the early 60s.
If you redistributed all the wealth equally, it would take a a short time for the rich to recover their wealth, and the others would again be back to where they started.
Rich demagogue beating the same old drum ping.
Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.
Then you should be against free trade
Sounds like the whining of a ghetto black with a chip on his shoulder. He didn’t mention his net worth of $12 million, daughters in private school, and $100-million vacations on AF1.
He’s officially earned the title of “reverend” racebaiter.
This repulsive little homo is correct in his diagnosis, that our middle class is shrinking. But what is his solution? Here it is, it is useless and the “clean energy” he wants is 100% bs >>>>>
“The priority, Obama said, should be spending for infrastructure, education, clean energy, science, research and other domestic initiatives of the sort he twice campaigned on.”
This homo has never turned a wrench in his life.
What a f***ing hypocrite.
Redundantly, I speak of something again and again. ;)
This homo has never turned a wrench in his life.
That's bad enough; it's infinitely worse that he despises men who make their livings with wrenches.
“Redundantly, I speak of something again and again. ;)”

You are not the only grammar cop on FR.
It seems to be their pathetic calling in life.
I will stand by my post ;)
You mispelled GRAMMER.
Something real strange has been going on with him since his re-election. The things that have come out of his mouth are not the things the Cheif Executive of a nation should be saying
If there were no income gap, and everyone was paid the same. How would there be upward mobility?
The income gap is what makes upward mobility.
