Zimmerman case hurt media's image
Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | July 29, 2013 | Matthew Reavy

A Pew Research poll this month revealed that less than a third of Americans believe journalists contribute "a lot" to societal well-being. That's more in a continuing stream of bad news for the media.

Unfortunately, the press has done little to improve that image with its coverage of Trayvon Martin's death. Instead, reporters took a tragic situation and sensationalized it, igniting racial tensions rather than focusing on what many see as serious gaps in our gun and self-defense laws.

[Snip]

At every turn the media seemed to willingly pull facts out of context to sensationalize the story and amplify the racial angle:

The first publicized photos depicted a 14-year-old Martin, three years younger and smaller than at the time of the shooting. Zimmerman was shown in an orange prison jumpsuit. These were, at the very least, prejudicial to public understanding.

When Zimmerman's 911 calls were released, NBC inexplicably edited the tape, stringing together separate statements in order to portray Zimmerman as saying: "This guy looks like he's up to no good. He looks black."

A CNN analysis suggested that Zimmerman had used a racial epithet under his breath during that 911 call. The network later retracted the allegation.

Instances such as these could easily be attributed to simple error if that error did not consistently fall in one direction. No reports featured tape improperly edited to cast Zimmerman in a good light.

A recent Gallup poll showed that 60 percent of Americans no longer trust the media to report the news "fully, accurately, and fairly." Distorted coverage of Martin's killing has done nothing to improve that trust.

Nope. The media’s image is so low that it would have to raise 1, 000,000 years at the speed of light to get it to the bottom of hell.

The Zimmerman case didn’t hurt the media’s image. Instead it confirmed the media’s corrupt and advocacy image for the blacks and dems for those who have seen it’s biased reporting for years.

This is why they’re still butt-hurt over the verdict. They keep on trying to create outrage or something. Denial.

Gotta question for you. Did Trayvon Martin first go to his Dad’s girlfriend’s condo, drop his goodies off and go back out and confront George Zimmerman after the initial meeting?

A friend of mine says he didn’t. I didn’t follow the medias rendition of this nor did I follow the case here...I just don’t give a damn, really.

I would like to know if the little thug could have stayed indoors and would have been alive today or did he go back out and start a fight?

And they don’t care

No they don't care, but hopefully, this will hurt them in the pocketbook. Hopefully, because of their perfidy, their income will go in the toilet. They will become even less relevant than they are now. THAT will be a beautiful thing to behold.

They are more concerned with spreading their lies than they are about profitability, unfortunately for our country.

There was a four-minute gap between the time Martin reached the condo and the time the attack on George Zimmerman began. It’s known that Martin came back to confront Zimmerman, so Martin could have simply gone inside and stayed alive.

Pinging the master of the Zimmerman live threads for his thoughts and hopefully better details.

“Our job is to give people not what they want, but what we decide they ought to have.” -Richard Salant, former president of CBS News

“We are going to impose our agenda on the coverage, by dealing with issues and subjects that we choose to deal with.” - Richard Cohen, Senior Producer, CBS Political News

“We are gratful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine, and other great publications whose directores have attended our meetings and respected their promises of descretion for almost forty years.

It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march toward a world government.” -David Rockerfeller, founder of the Trilateral Commission, in an address to a meeting of The Trilateral Commission, in June, 1991.

“There is no such thing, at this date of the world’s history in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print.

The business of the journalist is to destroy the truth: to lie outright; to pervert; to vilify; to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it and what folly is this toasting an independent press?

We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks; they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities, and our lives are the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.”

-John Swinton, highly respected former Chief of Staff for the New York Times, at the New York Press Club, 1953, when asked to give a simple toast before the New York Press Club, stunned a roomful of admiring peers into total silence with the preceding remarks (as reported in the January, 1993 issue of The National Educator, and also quoted in the book “Pure Sociology” by Professor Lester T. Ward)

“Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle.” -Thomas Jefferson

...aaand they're still doing it- pushing an agenda in a story that is modestly self-critical of the media pushing agendas.

The bright spot is that my opinion of the mass media at large couldn't get any lower- so there's really no harm done.

According to Witness 8, the state’s and scheme team’s star witness, Martin ran, walked, skipped to his daddy’s girl friend’s townhouse which was 70 yards from where he then went back and threw the first punch.

That was undisputed and repeated by her over and over again in interviews, depositions, and in court.

As a matter of fact that was one of the three critical pieces of evidence that the jury relied upon for their Not Guilty verdict — the other two being the pictures of his injuries and the 911 tape of the screams.

There is a serious gap in our gun and self defense laws.

When the media and the government can take a case with literally no credible evidence of being anything other than self-defense, and do to the man who defended his own life what they’ve done to George Zimmerman, I’d call that a serious gap.

The Grand Jury process is supposed to protect the citizen from just this kind of abuse.

For some reason in Florida this Prosecutor was able to bypass the Grand Jury and take Zimmerman to trial for murder with out a Grand Jury indictment; this is a violation of Zimmerman’s Fifth Amendments rights.

Amendment V

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
