Sea Level Rise Surprise (S. Fred Singer)
American Thinker ^ | July 31, 2013 | S. Fred Singer

Driving the seemingly endless climate-treaty negotiations, the most widely feared consequence of Global Warming appears to be a catastrophic rise in sea level (SLR). Environmental advocacy groups are filling the airwaves with lurid images of flooding of Bangladesh and Pacific islands, and raising the specter of hundreds of millions of environmental refugees demanding care and compensation.

Even sober scientists, while not endorsing such obvious scare stories, predict an acceleration of the ongoing global rise, which a system of tidal gauges places at about 18 cm (7 inches) during the 20th century. Economists concerned with trying to estimate a 'social cost' of carbon-dioxide emissions predict huge economic losses from future SLR. Not surprisingly, insurance companies, looking to raise premiums, are cheering them on.

However, more detailed analyses of actual observations suggest an opposite outcome: A climate warming might even slow down SLR -- rather than accelerate it. To understand this counter-intuitive result, one must first get rid of false leads -- just as in a detective story. The misleading argument here is the oft-quoted statement that the climate warmed by 1degF (0.6 C) in the last 100 years and that SL rose by 18 cm. Both parts of the statement may well be true; but the second part does not necessarily follow from the first.

Curiously, Barack Obama predicted a deceleration of SLR when he accepted his party's nomination in 2008: "This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow, and our planet began to heal." Some tidal-gauge data do show deceleration, but starting in 1960...

Why would anyone with half a brain listen to these folks given their track record of ridiculous prediction upon ridiculous prediction that never materializes? Then again, I scratch my head at half the stories I read.

Global warming is the Black Knight in the Monty Python sketch. Sure of their purpose and undaunted by their horrendous wounds, they push their centralized control model “to save us all.”

Sadly, most high school graduates and Liberal Arts graduates can’t make change, let alone interpret these charts.

Thanks for this thread.

As your posted article points out, there has been a 7 inch rise in sea level in 100 years. At that rate, sea level will rise 70 inches in 1000 years. Thankfully, that is only 63 inches above the present, or a mere 5 feet 3 inches, which is shorter than the average American woman, and thus not a factor to be included in the agenda of the Welfare Democrat’s on-going “War on Women,” better known as WOW!

Obviously, CO2 is not the cause of global warming as the Carbon in CO2 is essential to all life on Earth, and CO2 is the primary source for Carbon through the “Green Energy process of photosynthesis,” better known as GEPOP.

Enough of Science! Now we need to look for the TRUE cause of sea level rise! Yes indeedy! The obvious reason is that there are more ships under and on top of the World’s Oceans than ever before! Huge Oil tankers, Cruise ships and GSA and IRS party barges displace immense quantities of sea water.

Each Airport built on salt water marshes causes sea level to rise. In fact, the increased obesity of tourists on Cruise ships has caused the Cruise ships to sink lower in the water than they did a generation ago.

What to do about this unrecognized cause for sea level to rise?

The key to solving this problem is to follow the method of well-known con-artist B. Hussein Obama.

B. Hussein has shown us pied piper rats that “education is key to having a workforce with the skills needed to compete in the Global Labor Market.”

Thus, “the rich are going to have to pay a little more,” because taxation is salvation for the Middle Class.

Merely by educating and taxing, all problems will thus be solved, including causing the Oceans to recede, the Obese to shrink, and all Sunsets will have the pink glow of Socialism.

BTW, The topic of increased deposition of sediments into the Oceans causing the Oceans to rise is not discuued here but will be discussed in a future comment under the topic of “Global Cutting Of Trees,” better known as GCOT.

BTW, BTW, even though Global Sea Level was much higher 100 KYBP, in this New Age of Con-Artist Government, we must not allow “The past be key to the present.”

How to spot a liberal scam:

1. The feared “event’ is far enough into the future that it takes more than 15 years to disprove.

2. American companies have to ‘pay’. American liberal do-gooders and academics ‘get’ (money grants jobs).

3. The UN gets a role.

4. Money is taken from productive counties and ‘given’ to poor countries.

5. Poor countries that are ‘chosen to receive’ tend to be African and others known for corruption and large kickbacks.

6. The press disparages anyone who isn't a believer...

7. The press pushes fears that ‘we're all gonna die’ if we don't ___________ (fill in blank with current liberal group-think)

8. People who couldn't pass high school algebra are pulling out charts and lecturing...

If any five of the above are are happening - it's a liberal elite scam.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls our climates.

3. The earth is a rock.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?
