Well,,,, had a lot of trouble when I was taking it! Totally screwed up my short term memory. It was so bad that,,,, I’d be doing chlorine tests at the water company. 5 drops of this, then 5 drops of that. After a few drops, I’d completely forgotten how many drops I’d put in. That’s pretty bad! Reformed my diet, and stopped taking it. Memory problems stopped immediately.

Persist with it nevertheless.

My side effects pretty much ceased when I stopped eating starch or sugar.

And the effects return if I go ‘off plan’ with that stuff.

The crap almost killed my nephew.

NMobody even knew he was taking it until he suddenly began to gain weight, became a head case, and lost all energy. Finally passed out while driving.

Have never heard of weight GAIN with metformin. That must be one of the more unusual side effects.

Usually it’s a weight loss drug. If only because you stay in the potty...

If you don’t like your liver, for example, it will shred that for you.

Do you take it with food? You must take it with a meal, otherwise, whoops! I learned the hard way (no pun intended) ;-)

Ask for the slow-release form, it is much less likely to cause that problem. I stopped using the regular metformin for that very reason (runs), and switching to the slow-release form solved the problem.

“”Finally passed out while driving.”

I had “light-headed” problems too. Finally went back to the doc after almost passing out driving.

Januvia does not seem to have that side-effect (runs), but it is WAY more expensive than Metformin and some policies won’t pay for it.

I always tell people that metformin lowers my blood sugar by tearing up my lower GI tract so bad that I don’t feel like eating. Gotta love a medicine that can turn any meal into bad Mexican food. But it sure does work.

They put my wife on it to treat a small pituitary tumor and she gained 40 pounds in no time and had memory and energy issues as well.

She got off it and her energy and memory came back but she has battled for years now to drop the weight and can’t.

nas,
Talk to your doc before experimenting! By really changing my diet around, my Type 2 blood sugar is right around high normal. So, as long as I’m careful, I don’t really need the meds. But,,,, I’m going in right now for blood work, so we’ll see,,,,,
But talk to your doc.

I’m happy with Metformin.
My last A1C was 5.9.
