WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States is "extremely disappointed" in Russia's decision to grant asylum to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden, the White House said Thursday.
In its first public response to Russia's move in defiance of U.S. wishes, the Obama administration said it was not a positive development for U.S.-Russia relations and said that it undermined Russia's record of law enforcement cooperation with the U.S. The White House added that it is re-evaluating whether President Barack Obama should attend an upcoming summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

I still maintain that the feds do NOT want Snowden to be extradicted to the USA. The trial would open up a can of worms for the fed security programs. The defense would want to use a lot of security information. The feds and Putin are in collusion on this one.
Putin seems somewhat more concerned about the US than Obama.
I believe every major spy agency of every major country in the world knew roughly what the NSA was doing. We were the last to know.
I’m a bit ambivalent about Snowden. Without being on the inside, I can tell if he only broke the news to the citizenry of what was going on, or really gave up something of value to our current and potential adversaries.
What I’ve heard so far is that Snowden gave info on the extent of civilian survellance. Bradley Manning was different—he did a wholesale download and transmission of content, not a discussion of scope. That little weasel deserves a long-term imprisonment.

I don’t really think we were the last to know. Maybe 5 years ago I was down in D.C. on business and went to the National Spy Museum. They had an entire exhibit about the U.S. Cyber Command. So it was out there.
I also know some people that work in the NSA. I’ve been told what they are doing without being told, if you know what I mean. So this doesn’t surprise me.

Snowden could probably turn annoying into vexatious, quite easily. With the help of the Russians, who would probably find it hilarious, Snowden could pretend that he has become a conduit for complaints by anonymous intelligence workers.
To start with, there is a vast amount of not-so-secret US intelligence systems that are just not well known to the US public. By highlighting them and making them known, they could stimulate an awful lot of public anger at the intelligence agencies.
Snowden could also drive elected and appointed bureaucrats nuts just by letting them know that they are “in the fishbowl”, too. It can reach an almost tabloid level of silly.
If a politicians supports the intelligence agencies, the reason is because they are “owned”, blackmailed by the agencies.
At least Russia did wait until zero got relected. Grabbing that leg did payoff.

I will never apologize for my country, but damn, do I ever feel like apologizing for this insignificant pismire we elected President. Next to him Robert Mugabe has gravitas.

Remember back in 1990-ish when we were very concerned about “who controls the missiles” as the Soviet Union fell apart? Well, now its the other way around. Putin knows that our government is disintegrating into a bankrupt banana republic run by an idiot and his great cloud of idiots. He has legitimate concerns for who controls what.
Shouldn’t the headline read “US Citizens disappointed (yet again) with the White House”?

We knew this 40 years ago. Heck, it is in every spy movie out there. We just refused to believe it or didn’t think it was real.
Re who controls the missiles:
Good point, as Obama and the Dems do their best to politicize what was a fantastic professional army. However, Obama is also trying to greatly reduce the number of nuclear weapons we have, and fights against any attempts to modernize the force of test its viability. Putin’s best strategy might be to just wait.
“Never bring a smart cruise missile to an H-Bomb fight”.
