MIAMI BEACH, Florida (Reuters) - Hundreds of friends and supporters of an 18-year-old graffiti artist who died after being shocked by a stun gun during a police chase in Miami Beach gathered on Saturday in a tearful rally at the site where he had been spray-painting.
Colombian-born Israel Hernandez-Llach died on Tuesday after police shocked him with a Taser as he ran away from officers who caught him spray-painting the wall of a shuttered McDonald's.
"He was a genius," said Lucy Rynka, 18, who graduated from Miami Beach Senior High School with Hernandez-Llach last spring. "He showed me how powerful art can be, how you can use color and design to relay a powerful message."
Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinez has said that Hernandez-Llach was confronted by officers after vandalizing private property and ignored their commands to stop running.

Chris Rock - How not to get your a** kicked by the police!
Well you know, Lucy, most artists aren't truly recognized until they're dead.
“He was a genius,” said Lucy Rynka, 18”
No he was a vandal, if he was a genius he would have used his “talent” in a moral and legal way to earn income and spread his message. Not a genius, but a winner of a Darwin Award.
Spray painting a wall, running from the police and getting tazed, then dieing is hardly genius.
I find it difficult to believe that a young man would die from being tasered. Painful, yes, deadly to a healthy young adult, no. I imagine it will be discovered that this “genius” had drugs in his system. Perhaps cocaine and electricity don’t mix.
It shows how absurd ghetto values are.
To ghetto people, there is nothing wrong with laying waste to private property with ugly graffiti. In fact, in ghetto culture, graffiti is not vandalism, but works of art.
Will anyone point put that he was fleeing the scene of a crime, or will that offend the sensibilities of the ghetto? I fully agree that he should not have died for this crime, but, think he should have surrendered to police. Whereas the ghetto people think it was okay to flee, and the police are at fault for trying to capture him.

He was a genius!!.......... Maybe Not...
The art in question....
The artist
“Hernandez-Llach was confronted by officers after vandalizing private property and ignored their commands to stop running.”
Any “genius” knows that vandalizing private property is a no-no, especially the part to ignore cops commands. What a dumbaZZZZZZZZZ...sorry, that was the last sound he heard
Well, he can go back to Colombia now...in a box.
Hernández-Llachs only previous arrest was for shoplifting
But he could read cursive writing.
My cousin was tasered for running away from cops out of irrational fear.
No drugs.
It was blamed on a “weak heart” by the cops even though he had no history of heart problems.
About 5 cops hit him at once.
intellect and wisdom are orthogonal quantities
he was genius huh? Well now he’s a corpse. How about that?
“My cousin was tasered for running away from cops out of irrational fear.”
“A Møøse ønce bit my sister...”
“No realli! She was Karving her initials on the møøse with the sharpened end of an interspace tøøthbrush given her by Svenge - her brøther-in-law...”
“Mynd you, møøse bites Kan be pretti nasti...”
He probably won’t be vandalizing any more private property.
Genius, my eye...
