How under educated and how sick are some Americans?

O come on now, This is true Americana, you gotta love it.

Only in America can a poor kid grow up to be a rich Icon.

And ultimately die and be buried in the back yard by the pool, like a hamster

I live in the area and have been there. Only the tourist go. I remember where I was when i heard that the King was dead. I was nine and i was riding my Welsh pony on my father’s Mississippi cotton farm.

Thank you for providing an excellent example of that of which you speak.

I’ve always heard that Elvis’ last word was “Corn?”

Elvis liked those grilled in the pan, not deep fried.

My boss, an Air Force captain and I were sitting at a sidewalk cafe on the Via Veneto in Rome on 16 Aug 77. A mutual friend came moseying down the famed avenue, and pulled up a chair. He was the Rome ABC Bureau chief. He said “you boys aren’t going to believe this.” He told us about Elvis’ demise. We were shocked. The boss and I were teenagers when Elvis first hit the scene and were big fans.

Elvis' passing coincided with the publication of the book by his former flunkies, whom his dad had to fire, because he started seeing the bottom of the cashbox ($100,000 when El died), and it was the first ever public expose of the King's drug problems and other shenanigans. Whether the publication contributed to the fall, we can only speculate.

Here's one of only two Elvis' recordings that he made outside of record company studios. Not many have heard it. Scotty Moore in top form, as always.

Fool, Fool, Fool

You KNOW the economy is bad when only half the crowd shows up for this event than showed up last year.

Just the other night I told my wife that the current generation isn’t into Elvis. That may explain the drop off in attendence. The Elvis craze is almost over. As am I.

You’re quite mistaken “VerySadAmerican”. Last year (2012) was the 35th anniversary and the 5 year points are always “bigger” than the anniversaries in between, such as this one. However, sometimes the “quieter” anniversaries turn out to be the best ones.

Lots of young people are visiting Graceland and were in attendance at the event. Elvis will always be popular.

Got it. Ever been? All kinds of signs saying “Elvis lives!” Some guy wrote on the wall “Elvis is dead.” They clean the wall constantly.

It probably won’t be long before you’ll need a police escort. Not a great part of town. When Elvis bought the place it was out in the country.

It’s a wonderful place to visit - you should try to make it if you can, any time of the year.
