Bakery Investigated for Refusing to Bake Lesbian Wedding Cake
Fox News ^ | August 15, 2013 | Todd Starnes

The state of Oregon has launched a discrimination investigation against a family bakery owned by Christians who refused to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple.

The Bureau of Labor and Industries will investigate whether Sweet Cakes by Melissa violated a 2007 law that protects the rights of gays, lesbians, bisexual and transgender people in employment, housing and public accommodations.

Aaron and Melissa Klein told Fox News they turned down requests to bake cakes for gay weddings because it goes against the Christian faith and their right to religious freedom.

“I believe marriage is between a man and a woman,” Klein said. “I don’t want to help somebody celebrate a commitment to a lifetime of sin.”

The 2007 Oregon law provides an exemption for religious organizations and religious schools but does not allow private business owners to discriminate based on sexual orientation.

Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian told The Oregonian he is committed to a fair and thorough investigation to determine whether the bakery discriminated against the lesbians.....

“The Bureau of Labor and Industries will investigate whether Sweet Cakes by Melissa violated a 2007 law that protects the rights of gays, lesbians, bisexual and transgender people in employment, housing and public accommodations.”

Apparently, however, the rights of business owners to be free to work within the confines of their own conscience doesn’t matter.

Since when did the “rights of gays” obligate others to bake them a cake?????

Were they using real lesbians for the cake? Is it like baking girl scout cookies with real girl scouts?

Those homosexuals sure do like those cakes don’t they?! Every week they’re attacking some bakery for not baking them a cake.

Sub contract it to a Muslim bakery. Have you ever tasted anything baked by a Muslim? They use lamb fat as lard. It might look good and smell good, but ohhhh the taste.

Only reason I know is that I had Muslim renters and they would bake me stuff. I graciously thanked them.....

Bake the cake. Change all fluids (water. milk) to sardine juice.

Good heavens, pop that sucker in the oven and it would make the kitchen smell like cannery row at low tide in August. The stench would be alarming and possibly permanent.

A thick coating of cream cheese frosting would probably go well with the aroma.

So your answer is to be sneaky and basically lie to customers.

That will only work for so long.

The gay bastards will be even sneakier.

What happens when one side of a couple asks for a cake, but when he comes to take delivery of the finished product, he's with his future "husband"? Can the business owners claim that they are too busy to hand over the finished product to the "happy couple"?

It would be interesting to see what happened after the Civil Rights Law was passed. There must have been lots of hotels and restaurants that still didn't want to serve Blacks. How long were they able to get away with that? What subterfuges did they use?

If Christian businesses try to use the same tactics then they will be smeared as bigots.

If they fight and take the consequences, and if this impacts enough businesses and jobs, then maybe legislatures will be forced to modify their laws to allow for conscientious objection to the gay "lifestyle".

Exactly, no need to be rude and crude to another person simply because they are “sinner”. Are we all sinners too?
If I owned the bakery, I would have been upfront with them. I would still bake the cake but they themselves would have to decorate it. Now if they harass the baker then there is no choice but to bring it to court and stand for your principles.

That is not true, when it comes to special/custom orders!

If I have perishable stock on a public retail store shelf, and you have legal tender, I can’t refuse to sell that item to you. Why would I?

No store warranty need be offered, and if the product is defective, the customer can take that issue directly up with the manufacturer, not the retailer.

Custom and/or special orders are a whole different story.

Bussinesses can and do refuse to serve customers who want “custom” services every single day.

Smile at them and tell them you are taking THEIR money from the cake and donating it to an organization that helps homosexuals recover. Then, ask them if they would like to contribute. Thank them for helping fund a heterosexual business. Don’t ever surrender.

All that goes out the window when the gov’t ‘requires’ a business to get a ‘license’....with all the line/hooks and sinkers that come along with the same.

Much like the anti-smoking. Most, even on the Right (IMHO) backed the same. But, they’re not the ones paying the taxes, payroll, etc. They got their foot in the poor (pardon the pun) to get us here.

Anti-Right of association. Right to run ones business as one deems (golden rule here, no?)...gone. Right to refuse (for any reason)...gone.

I’d bake ‘em a cake. A special cake. Add (oops, I mean accidentally spill) a couple of tablespoons of Dave’s Insanity sauce in the icing and give these reprobates a taste of the Hell that awaits them.

“Businesses once had the right to refuse business..”

It’s really better in the long run for any small business, regardless of why you might not want someone’s patronage, to quote a very high price, quote a very long lead time, say you are booked on that date, you are unable to technically perform the task properly, etc. It’s just unwise to deliberately provoke ill will, regardless of the situation.

True.
But wannabe divas will be wannabe divas regardless.
Then the “fun” starts as they start shrieking.

Homos want one thing - - to jam a thumb in the eye of normal people. Never forget that.
It's what their whole gay "marriage" tantrum is about.

There's a reason kids today use phrases like, "That's so gay," as a deragatory comment. It has nothing to do with their upbringing or home environment, and is actually in direct contradiction to what the government schools relentlessly try to beat into them. Even the constant efforts of the decadent movie / television / newsroom culture to "normalize" homosexuality fall miserably short when it comes to children.

That is because kids understand naturally - - instinctively - - that there is just something sick about a man pushing his penis into another man's anus full of turd. It's one of those things nobody needs to teach, and it is why homosexuals instinctively feel ashamed of what they are and what they do, and why they suffer the tears of a clown even as they march with fake smiles in fake "pride" parades. In psychology parlance, a "gay pride parade" is known as a "hall of mirrors".

I used to be quite ambivalent about homosexuals. “Live and let live” was my motto.
But now? Now I absolutely hate faggots.

Unless this whole episode was intentional ... why didn’t they just go to a queer bakery?

The bakery's web site had some religious statements on it, so I guess these people chose the bakery to try and be "trailblazers" (and make some lawsuit cash in the process).

Ask for the advice and support of pro-freedom legal groups like Institute for Justice. But you are up against the State in Oregon. If you must bake the cake, just do what’s needed without the extras ... except perhaps a few Christian Crosses in the decoration. Tell the couple that some of their money will be charitably donated to a pro-traditional marriage organization. Freedom of speech should still allow them to decorate their shop to reflect their personal and religious views. That should keep the HomoNazis away.

Gee, I would love to bake them a cake. I would cook about 20 pounds of chicken gizzards and let them cool. Then I would cover them with whipped cream and put a cherry on top. Bon Appétit!

Egads! A heinous waste of gizzards, whipped cream and a cherry! I would get a cardboard box and frost it with something that might look slightly like chocolate icing but only in that it too is brown. The put the 2 bride figurines on the top and pipe lettering with a mustard bottle: "Best wishes, and may you lick each others clams for eternity, in Hell"
