Tamarod, the Egyptian movement which led the opposition to ousted President Mohammed Morsi, apparently now has a new target: the peace treaty with Israel.

Egyptian media reported on Saturday that Tamarod, which amassed 22 signatures to a petition demanding Morsi’s departure before the army ousted him in July, is now collecting signatures to a new initiative calling to cancel the peace treaty signed between Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin in 1979.

Tamarod’s latest initiative, according to the reports, comes in the wake of what they called the “unacceptable U.S. interference in Egypt’s political affairs.” The members of the group are demanding that the Israel-Egypt treaty be put to a referendum. …

Reads like ‘blackmail’ to me. IF our dear leader stops sending the checks then the whole system is coming down?

Nope its one in a half billion mostly for military hardware. 99.99999998% of the Egyptian population receives absolutely NO benefit from our aid..it has no leverage at all with anyone who could remotely be called the average Egyptian..

The members of the group are demanding that the Israel-Egypt treaty be put to a referendum. …

The threat is to US for nonpayment of promised money. AND the methodology to be used is a referendum meaning a vote on the 'peace deal' made around 40 years ago. The referendum most likely is not going to say the US has cut our military funding. See not even like minded liberals in purchasing peace deals keep their word.

The US aid has zero influence on events there. The political argument folks here make also have zero influence on anyone there.

So this 'report' is a hoax? Some 'group' in Egypt is NOT threatening US via Israel? I do not know if the average Egyptian knows how much tax dollars we send them and have sent them for the past 40 some years. It certainly does appear the military does indeed have quite enormous authority in Egypt... the military would not be what it is IF it were not for our tax dollars.

Interesting bluff move to put massive pressure on Obama.

This does not make sense (then again, they're Muslims) because they support their military junta, Israel supports their military junta and it is in their best interest to keep the border with Israel quiet & friendly as they march on with their internal problems.
This would not be the first time the Arabs do that which is directly detrimental to their interests...

Liberals can’t deal with the negative blowback from their polices, it’s like it never happened and they weren’t there or suddenly have amnesia.

The military wants the aid..they have rent to pay.

The groups in the street could care less...and it appears to me they will eventually win.

Israel has a problem due to events on the ground that they cannot control. I suspect they have said yes to Kerry to buy time and see what will happen.

The same doubts were expressed about the “flower power” generation in Israel up to 1973. In the 1973 Yom Kippur war, those “lazy”, hippy type Israelis fought like lions and not only stopped the Egyptian and Syrian surprise attack advances but they shattered the Egyptian and Syrian armies. The war started inside Israeli territory and finished deep inside Egypt and Syria.
The younger generation are softer but can be expected to deliver punches that will surprise Hizbollah or any other foe. There are many lessons from the 2006 Hizbollah war...

sounds like the new guy in Egypt and Israel are fine - in constant contact - Egypt just wants all US hands on - OFF - and needs to get to the rest of mussie nests.
It just may be that Egypt and Israel will work out their own treaty - without any input from the US muzzie -

the usurper in the the WH is setting the US back decades -

Given the feigned outrage over a rodeo clown in dear leader mask, I do not have the confidence this threat has any cause for impact on our (US) modern ruling liberals. The ousting of the PhD materials scientist Morsi, has caused the greatest consternation for our dear leader and his ambassadors lord McCain and Lindsey.

I can only think of one reason for the Egyptian military to cancel the peace treaty. The peace treaty prevents them from acting on the Gaza strip. There is no love at this point with the pailis in the sinai and gaza. Just something to ponder.

Another in a series of articles posted about how evil Sisi and Tamarod are. Some decent comments on the thread though. Pinging you in case you have any time to make a comment or so.
