We’ve had a female President, her name was Edith Wilson.
After Woodrow had a stroke in October 1919 she controlled all everything he saw and he had little contact with anyone but her and his doctor. Despite her claims to the contrary it’s believed that she essentially was the President for the rest of his term. The public was kept in the dark as to extent of his infirmity.
There was no 25th amendment yet so he should have been forced to resign.
