Sen. Pat Toomey Says Government Shutdown Is Wrong Tool Against Obamacare
CBS Philly ^ | August 21, 2013 | By David Madden

US senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) today was suggesting that an idea being floated in some Republican circles — to try and shut down the government to stop Obamacare — is just not the right way to go.

The ultra-conservative US senator insists the Affordable Care Act is a failure and should be defunded, if not repealed outright.

Toomey says he’ll try to take some limited action in the short run to hobble Obamacare, such as pushing for a delay in the “individual mandate.”

But if Congress tries to shut down government operations over the law, he feels, it won’t do a lot of good.

Congressman Pat Meehan (R-Pa.), representing Delaware County, joins in that sentiment. Meehan and Toomey are to convince fellow GOPers promising a showdown on Capitol Hill that their tactics will backfire on them — and their party.

The problem is......there is absolutely no consensus on a perfect conservative. People, individually, were attacked by other conservatives for supporting those the attackers did not like. This is how the left has defeated us. They did not hold out for their perfect liberal, instead, they moved a little further left with each election. We, on the other hand, fight among ourselves insisting for immediate perfection.

None of us are not looking for perfection. He or she does not exist. What we will not tolerate is republicans that come home and run on sound republican principles and the tenants of Conservatism and then govern by turning their back on those things and by breaking their promises to those that voted them into office. We will not tolerate those that would ignore the Constitution just to reach a compromise for the sake of passing any legislation. Their job is to govern a representative republic and to represent the people that sent them to DC in the first place... not to serve a party or even themselves... and to be quite honest... in my lifetime... I can count the number of truly honest people that have run or could run for president as a republican on one hand... and even then I would have some extra digits that would get lonely.

Did any of you read what he said? A liberal media outlet suggests many “ifs” and has Toomey respond.

Now, some of you are going to vote for a second dem senator for PA.

Daily, when I read these forums, I really don’t know what to think. Good conservatives are attacked many of you claim that you will never vote for a republican.......,Santorum lost his seat to the glee of so many of you.....there is zero consensus even among the regular and frequent posters here when it comes to the ultimate conservative today. So, instead, we have the left continuing to gain strength due to the conservative split.

Put together a budget and let the demonkrats vote it down. I think it is time to let them take the heat. Cut the taxes down to a luxury tax or a flat tax. Let the clown in chief run his mouth while he is wasting millions on his vacations and stupid ass bus tour.

May I honestly ask you why you would say that?

I did vote for that north east baby killing statist named romney... I actually donated to his campaign because Jim himself asked FReepers to do so. I will swear that if the republicans nominate christie, jeb bush, huntsman or any other progressive gop/e candidate... I will help to start a third party and I will work equally hard to destroy both the republican and democrat parties. I have never in my life voted for anyone other than a republican... but I gave the gop one last chance with romney and they proved for the last time that a liberal republican cannot win the Presidency. That is not looking for perfection... that is looking for a Republican candidate and not some progressive leftist republican in name only.

toomey reached across the isle and partnered with Senator manchin (dim) and co-sponsored a disgusting anti-second Amendment bill and he also voted to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. No true Conservative would do that... only a man that sways with the political winds. Where does one draw the line?

but geez, Rick Santorum was skewered by the good conservatives on this very forum, the premiere conservative forum on the internet, for NOT endorsing Pat Toomey.

Isn’t that something.

Our rep had a townhall tonight which we attended. He said the GOP had a big conference call this afternoon and Boehner and the leadership want to draw the line at the debt ceiling vote so I assume they are sending out the reps to sell it to us. Most of the folks at the townhall tonight were not buying it and very vocally.

Then, get out there and support your candidate. In the last election, EVERY SINGLE CONSERVATIVE was attacked at will here, on the premiere conservative forum on the internet. He or she was claimed to be not good enough and if I had a penny for every time someone here typed........”teach the party a lesson”, well, I could really take a nice long vacation.

There’s way too much running down good people on our side and frankly, and this is a great example.........the liberal media reports something and so many here, on the premiere conservative forum on the internet run with it and use it against a conservative.

As I said, the liberals have defeated us. They all get behind the eventual candidate, even though they have differences. They were willing to take baby steps toward the left. We, on the other hand will have no part of that. We must all agree (with whatever issue is at the forefront on that given day) or ELSE, well, we’ll teach that party a lesson, huh? (adds a penny to the growing vacation fund)

Toomey, you ignorant slut!

Pretty accurate!

Or, paraphrasing Rumsfeld, you go to war with the tool you have.

Tomney and the other Rinos should either present an alternative as good or better or get behind this one.

Dithering for yet another election cycle isn't going to be of much use, but that's what I expect Toomey and his friends tod o.

I was all for Santorum coming out of Iowa but romney... being the corrupticon that he is... lied and said he won Iowa... only to have to admit a week later that he had lost... but Rick was damaged and romney got the mo and the rest is a sordid history of corrupt SoS and keeping Rick and Newt off the ballots in three states.

You just do not get it... primaries are rough... and we must be careful because we cannot allow many more rubio’s to pass through as Conservatives. There is a history of liars getting elected and the turning to the left. ALL of our candidates were flawed... yes even Rick and Newt. If they can't stand the heat... they can get out of the kitchen. Reagan was attacked horribly by the republicons and dims... but he managed to win two historic elections without worry.

“Sen. Pat Toomey Says Government Shutdown Is Wrong Tool Against Obamacare” Okay that’s enough for me! If pattie says no shutdown let’s all just go home and watch the end of our future live on CNN.

Oh, I get it just fine.

Fact - the liberals have defeated us. They were and still are willing to take baby steps toward the left. They are willing to win small victory after small victory.

On our side, there are *SOME* who just would rather not have a good conservative win, because then, they can’t complain about the party, the rinos, the gop elite, etc.

Ronald Reagan was a different time, I’m afraid. Pre twitter, pre facebook, pre iphone. Society in general has deteriorated in the last few decades and the left takes advantage of that. Our side, on the other hand demands that the candidate MUST adhere to the cause of the day and even though the media outright lies about our side, some are willing to take it as gospel, using that media report to attack those on our side. The issue itself doesn’t matter, the bar on the right continues to change, not allowing any conservative to reach it. Meanwhile, the country marches left with those on the left willing to take those baby steps.

I tire of seeing good conservatives on this premiere conservative forum attacked. How many on this premiere conservative forum actively campaigned against Mitt Romney because, well, he just wasn’t conservative enough? He was the candidate, and we can debate the process all we want, that does not change the fact that he was the candidate. The left takes their baby steps and so many on the right not only attack our candidates, but actively campaign against them. Anyone, and I DO mean anyone who claims that President Romney would be the same as Obama is just plain incorrect. You can cite issues that you really think Romney is for or against (once again, using mainstream media reports), but when I see regular and frequent posters here on the premiere conservative forum attacking conservatives constantly.....In the 2016 election cycle, already, potential candidates are being attacked. Will we have a repeat of 2012? Will the circular firing squad here on the premiere conservative forum once again be prominent?

The liberals have defeated us. Will conservatives rebound? I sure hope so.

Except for a handful of Conservatives in the Senate and maybe 72 or so in the House and some truly outstanding Governors... there are very few “good Conservatives” in government.

Even Newt and Rick have shown progressive streaks in the past. Right after obama won, michael steele... a race pimp republican progressive and Rick were subbing for Bill Bennett on his morning radio show “Morning in America” and both stated and agreed that “The era of Reagan is over... the electorate has moved further to the left. As a party, we must move more in the direction of the electorate and become more diverse”. THAT is not a Conservative statement and it certainly bodes ill for a man's true ideology. Newt has said almost exactly the same thing. He also stated that fdr was his favorite president and he has embraced more progressiveness than any real Conservative should.

When men are flawed and those flaws are exposed... it is not a circular firing squad. It does mean that we need a better class of Conservative running for office. I am not looking for perfection but to dis Reagan to further one’s party or personal position... well that is just wrong.

The era of Reagan was based upon founding principles and the only economic system that has ever prospered and built a republic like America. It never goes out of style any more than the truth goes out of style.

We are NEVER going to get a friendly media... we are never going to get socialist Hispanic invaders to support us... and as long as the welfare state redistributes wealth to people based on color... we will never get the black vote. Yes we are treated unfairly but we have the answers to save America... we have the tools to rebuild as a super power and we have the TRUTH on our side. I'll take those odds and will never again vote for anyone that stands against those principles no matter how well that they sell themselves... the truth is the truth.

You’re basing your assessment that Rick Santorum has a progressive streak on a comment on a morning radio show 5 years ago.

I did a quick internet search for Rick Santorum saying that and came up empty. Now, I’m not claiming that he didn’t say it, but this is EXACTLY what I’m talking about. It’s okay to claim that Rick Santorum.....RICK SANTORUM has a progressive streak based on a comment made on a morning radio show 5 years ago.

The left never does this. But, here on the premiere conservative forum on the internet, good conservatives like Rick Santorum are routinely and regularly attacked based ‘quotes’ from years ago. Context? Since you recall it so vividly, what was the entire conversation?

Meanwhile, the left marches on. We’re talking about one sentence from a conservative substituting on a morning radio show five years ago.

Since you’re so vivid in your memories of Rick Santorum, surely you remember the liberals mocking his children after his senate loss.

Right? Any comments on that?

I am making a statement of fact and gave one example of what I was explaining. This are just one example amongst many. I would have voted for Santorum and I did vote for Newt in our primary so that proves that I am not looking for perfection. I will NEVER again vote for a romney and I will stand by that decision and will not allow anyone to force me to deviate ever again. If the republicons nominate christy or jeb or any other progressive... it will be the end of my affiliation with the republican party... a lifetime association.

Now if you want to dig back to February/March 2009 (and pre election 2012) and search my posts, you will find me talking about this and you will also find other that located the transcripts and actually heard it too.
