The teen accused of shooting a toddler between the eyes during a robbery attempt counted down from five before firing, his alleged accomplice testified today after pointing him out as the shooter.
Dominique Lang testified that he ran into De'Marquise Elkins on the morning of the March 21 slaying. A short while later as the two walked together, they saw Sherry West with a stroller.
Lang says Elkins walked to West and demanded her purse before pulling out a gun. When West refused to hand the purse over, he hit her in the face with it and threatened her baby.
'The baby was in the stroller screaming,' Lang said.
Elkins shot Sherry West in the leg with his .22 caliber handgun, he testified, and then shot the 13-month-old baby Antonio Santiago.
De'Marquise Elkins is charged with murder, child cruelty, attempted armed robbery and multiple counts of aggravated assault in connection to the March 21 shooting.
If convicted, Elkins will not face the death penalty because he was 17 at the time of the killing, too young under Georgia law to be executed.
Prosecutors have also accused Elkins of shooting Wilfredo Calix Flores outside a local church ten days before the child was killed.

The woman had no guarantee that the goblin wouldn’t shoot her but since she had no gun or other way to defend herself it couldn’t have hurt.
Try to pull a gun on a lot of shooters I know(and shoot with),you’ll never even clear the holster.There are some people out here with some real skills.You might have a chance with the average street thug,but a serious shooter-I doubt it..
Remember they also used to say “If you are in a hijacked airliner, just do what the hijackers say and the situation will eventually resolve itself peacefully”.
But I’m guessing the guys you shoot with would never use a gun in the commission of a crime because they don’t commit crimes.
The run-of-the-mill street thug, such as the guest-of-honor in this discussion is a different matter.

Nope. I keep my 9mm in my backpack, but this strategy works with a purse, too.
Say “I keep my wallet/money/phone in my backpack/purse. Let me give them to you.” SLOWLY and unthreateningly put you hand in the backpack/purse. Grasp your weapon. And then shoot the thug from INSIDE the backpack/purse. The thug will never see it coming.
No gunfight. Just seeming compliance then BANG!
